White Sea

The most trafficked sea in the world. Named after the white sand found upon the seabed, which is unlike any sand found elsewhere in the world. Entirely surrounded by the human continents of Althea, Nothos, Kesperia and the mingled continent of Galliand. Numerous islands are also found in the White Sea with many small city states scattered around them. As the waters are mostly calm and predictable, this is an ideal sea for trading but the wares to be found in the ports have become common place making the southern Emerald Sea and the North Ocean more lucrative mercantile regions. The White Sea is warm and salty but has less brine than the other oceans and is named as such because of how shallow much of its waters are which allows the white sand to be seen from the surface. Weather in this sea is temperate but prone to common gales and storms from the east, where the Amaranthine Typhoon rages.

Geography

A unique sea, it is quite shallow compared to most bodies of water of its size. Nations that border this sea must use ships that do not sit too low in the water, as in turbulent waters, the ships run the risk of hitting the bottom of the sea.
Though they are slowly disappearing, there are many clusters of strange spires that also reach up from the shallow sea. They reach up like claws from the deeps. Curiously, the rock formations match the local geology, so they must be naturally formed, but how these spires came to be continues to be a mystery.

Climate

Temperate, though in the winter months, the waters are prone to storms and unsteady waves.
In the southern reaches, the water remains temperate all year but as you travel north, the sea goes cold and in the northwest, the Rhewindroch Glacier forms a natural bridge between Nothos and Alaechia. The Glacier has long survived the summers of the White Sea due to the currents coming from the North Sea which provide cold water that slows its melting. During the winter, the glacial bridge nearly turns into a wall and the waters below it freeze over in a sheet of ice. Trade halts entirely during this time of year and can only resume after the month of Springtide brings warmer waters to break the ice and melt the underside of the icebridge. Land trade still occurs using the top of the bridge, but due to the constant blizzards and ice storms during Bitter Snow, commerce is serverely curtailed via land as well.
