South Ocean

Below Tal Asir the South Ocean quietly laps away and snow falls gently into the waters. Considering how warm Tal Asir is, the fact that the ocean beneath it is so cold is strange phenomena. The currents are mostly to blame as they bring cold waters from the frozen base of Alaechar and bring it north which cools the air considerably. The mountains in southern Thalassia and Asira are also likely to share the blame. Few sail these waters as there are no trading ports on the southern shore of Tal Asir and not many islands in this sea. What islands there may be, are little more than frozen hunks of stone sticking out of icy water. Unlike the North Ocean, the South Ocean has snow year round and ice floes are a constant threat to the few that foolishly brave the waters here. In the furthest south sleeps a small, frozen continent. Legends say that the Gods abandoned it at the dawn of creation and left nothing there to support life, other tales speak of dwarven exiles who built a fantastic civilization but in their arrogance did not account for the brutality of endless winter and the snow and ice swallowed the city and its denizens up. The southern seas are rarely sunlit, a pallor of clouds eternally roll above and deposit soft white blankets upon the silent ocean. There is a certain beauty of the South Ocean but none tarry there for very long.
