Desolation

Disaster / Destruction

The Year of Desolation

The Dragon Prince is gone. The Leviathan Princess is gone. Two fathers have lost their children and in their rage, they set in motion a chain of events that desolate the entire realm.

In the final battle between the Phoenix Empire and the Cortavin Empire, Azir and Pavina both died. To the majority of people, even later on in history, the two lovers died in each other's arms. They were unable to live in a world where one didn't exist. A pillar of flames was all that was seen in the sky at the location where the two of them fought. No bodies, no remains. Just a scorch mark of the symbol of a Dragon and Leviathan. However, two people knew the truth. And through them, their people as well. Azar, the Dragon King, and Aldru, the Leviathan King saw their only children die, unable to ever return as their souls were gone.

Two kings who have lost many things, who barely have anything except their people and this war. The kings unleash their full power as they take power from the realm, using mana to fuel their power and they clash. Their battle causes shockwaves across the realm and they desolate Faterra. Earthquakes shatter Kesia, turning the Cortavin Empire into a shattered collection of islands and tearing Askia way from the very realm itself into the skies above.

In the end, the energy from their battle tore opened a portal to the The Void Between Realms . Countless Leviathans, Aldru, and Azar were pulled into the portal, the last one not to be seen since. The Leviathans were gone for the most part but the High Dragons and Phoenixes lost their king, resulting in the once united Elder Alliance fracturing once again. However, the worst of the Desolation came for the residents of Faterra.

Froa's northern side received a cold wave that turned the areas near the mountains from vibrant grasslands into tundra and taiga, killing hundreds of thousands from starvation and hypothermia. The people of the north who were used to some hardship would have to change drastically as they looked south for resources that would help them survive. However, the southern continent was much worse off.

Kesia was closest to the clash and possibly even targeted by the wrath of Aldru and Azar. Earthquakes and tidal waves wracked the coasts and tore through the land. The western section of Kesia where the Cortavin Empire resided was shattered, turned into dozens of islands. The east was ripped out of the ground and thrown into the sky where it would reside for the rest of time until the current date. Kesia as a continent would cess to exist from that moment onward.

The Desolation changed the face of Kesia geographically and politically. With the leaders of kingdoms gone or dead and landmasses destroyed, the two great empires of Faterra were defunct. They fell into infighting as countless factions rose up to claim power for themselves. The dream of a united realm was forever shattered. After Desolation, the High Dragons saw there was nothing left for them and left, retreating to their hidden city. Across Faterra, they saw the Dragons leave and thus began the Years of the Dragon.
