Ga Samathen

Basic Information

Anatomy

The Ga Samathen are cousins of the Haravi. They have four limbs, although they diverged early from the Haravi to develop digitigrade legs mostly losing the primitive climbing ability of their jungle dwelling relatives. They are therefore well adapted for fast running and thrive particularly living in the savanna.   Their bodies are covered in fur which tends to be thicker on their heads, down their backs, under their arms and in the groins. They have five digits on each hand with distinct thumbs on their hands which may be clawed although their nails may be worn down by use. They have large paws rather than true feet due to their digitigrade form. They have long tails which are often covered by long fur. Their tails help them to balance but are not useful for gripping or manipulating objects like those of the Haravi.   They have long snouts with exceptional senses of taste hearing and smell. Their ears are usually large and pointed and can be angled independently. Their eyes are usually grey, brown or yellow in colour. An Earthling might be inclined to describe the Ga Samathen as canine.

Dietary Needs and Habits

The Ga Samathen are true omnivores. Their speed makes them excellent pursuit predators although they also eat a diversity of plants. Their digestive systems cannot digest tough plant material but they can eat starchy rhizomes and soft fruits.

Additional Information

Geographic Origin and Distribution

The Ga Samathen are native to the continents south-east of M'dia. There are small populations of Ga Samathen who have settled in south-eastern M'dia where they have close relations with the Tamijhiin and Haravi mostly due to their highly mutually compatible religions. In fact, both the Haravi and Ga Samathen tell similar stories of an important trickster god which many communities have equated. At the edge of the east M'dian jungle where the landscape becomes more sparsely forested to the south, there are even a number of joint Ga Samathen-Haravi shrines.
