Material Manipulation
Material Manipulation is the most difficult form of magic. It is any kind of magic that obviously changes a real, physical item in some way. This can be based on its shape, color, etc; where it is; what it is made of; or how it works.
Too Wyrd Spoiler
“So mote it be!” We shouted the final words, releasing the spell. Joseph fell forward, catching himself with his hands. I fell sideways and caught myself on shaky arms. The release of the magic had drained us both, and we struggled to catch our breath.
...
The man looked over the three of us with hard eyes. He seemed to smirk at the sight of Joseph and me huddled in the corner. His eyes scanned over us and along the floor.
I could see his expression turn to one of satisfaction when he spotted the pouch. I cursed myself for leaving it out in the open, and I lurched toward it.
...
Hope bloomed suddenly in my chest as I pieced together the possibilities. I glanced down at the pouch again. The pouch laying flat under his foot.
I realized that the cold on my cheeks was from tears running down my cheeks, and I burst out laughing.
Applied Restriction
This type of magic directly violates Reality. As such, it is nearly impossible to do. However, minimizing actual observation of the material helps in being able to change it.
For example, it is easier to change the internal color of an item than the external color. It is easier to make an item disappear if it is hidden from sight.
Characteristics like taste or smell are often easier to change, since those tend to be variable and more subjective.
