Just a week before Strombolio was set to return home, his ringmaster and mentor, Ringmaster Magnus, took ill from influenza. He died the day before Strombolio made it back. His death was met with much mourning and was one of the many things that contributed to Strombolio becoming an alcoholic a year later.
