The Apple Twins

Sour Apple is taller than Sweet Apple. Both have green, photosynthetic skin with hard tree bark covering their torsos, hands, and feet.

Their antler-like head branches produce the same apples they were sprouted from. Sweet's apples are pale red and similar in taste to Honeycrisp or Pink Lady apples, while Sour produces apples that are bright green and have a similar flavor to Granny Smith apples.

Both dryads have pointed noses and double-pointed, clefted ears.

One way to tell the two apart is by their eyes. Sweet has red eyes and a captivating wide-eyed stare that doesn't go away even when he is upset. Sour's eyes are green and have a more cynical, skeptical look about them.

Being dryads, the twins have an affinity for plants and can make them grow just by speaking to them.

They have a particular affinity for apple trees, unsurprisingly. Sweet and Sour Apple's method of speech tends to be somewhat different. Sweet tends to speak to them more casually, treating them like his best friends. Sour has a more businesslike approach, being stern when he needs to be but praising them when they meet his expectations. Both approaches work for different plants.

Being Earth elementals, the twins also possess super-strength and superior healing abilities. Their daemons give them extra abilities; Sweet's light daemon gives him a captivating look in his eyes that is hypnotic if one stares into his eyes for too long. Sour's water daemon gives him the power to put out forest fires with his magic and gives him an affinity for water-dwelling plants in particular.

Being dryads, the Apple twins don't really need to wear clothes. They do, however, wear gold-colored hoop earrings. Sweet's piercing is on the left side, while Sour's is on the right. They did this as a way of bonding with each other.

Sweet and Sour Apple live in a wooden trailer, similar to those that the Circus of Shadows uses. Inside is a myriad of equipment for processing apples to make into various products to sell.

Sweet and Sour Apple had a humble start to life. Being dryads, they began life as seeds dropped from the same dryad whose identity is unknown. One Cherry Sun, this dryad produced two sets of apples; one green and sour, the other red and sweet. One of each kind fell to the ground in the middle of the Emerald Woodland one day, sitting side by side.

One spring day in April, as the apples decomposed, two seeds began to germinate. For the first few years of their lives, Sweet and Sour Apple lived just like any other saplings in the Emerald Woodland. However, even this young, they could sense each other's presence, and quickly formed a bond. When they grew enough to develop faces, they frequently talked to each other.

Eventually, they grew enough to where they could uproot themselves, and they set out on their own. To support themselves, they began bartering with other faeries for supplies using the apples they sprouted every month. Eventually, they turned this into a thriving business, which they carry out to this day.

Because they are flowering dryads, both Sweet and Sour Apple are technically hermaphrodites. Their appearance is somewhat androgynous. However, they most often refer to themselves with masculine pronouns, so that is how others frequently refer to them as well.

The Apple twins started bartering their apples for food and supplies after they were old enough to extract themselves from the ground they grew in. They turned this into a small but thriving business which they take around the continent of Pandora.

When the War of the Wendigoes started, Sweet and Sour Apple saw many faeries they had come to know and love die. At one point, someone tried to get the two to an orphanage, but Sour Apple saw how overcrowded and dangerous the orphanages were. He ran away with his brother to live in a Children's Kingdom located in the middle of the Emerald Woodland, where the two began their start-up.

Sweet Apple can be a bit of an airhead sometimes, especially when he's upset. Between the two of them, he is the one who is more likely to blow off work, even when it gets him into trouble. Which it does a lot.

Sour Apple is far more cerebral and level-headed than his brother. He tends to put his head down and put in the work regardless of how he feels. This isn't always a good thing, as he can easily get lost in his work and forget to rest. He is also not immune to getting involved in his brother's shenanigans.

No matter what, the twins will always stick together. When one is in trouble, the other will go to the ends of the earth to get them out of it.

Sweet Apple understands the value of fun and play much better than his brother does. Since Altairus is a land where the feelings and motivations of people have tangible effects on its magic, this is a very valuable trait to have.

In contrast, Sour Apple is very levelheaded and diligent in his work. He is the backbone for the two's apple-selling business most often, making sure the work gets done no matter what. Of course, this doesn't mean that he is opposed to fooling around every now and again.

Unfortunately, Sweet Apple's carefree nature sometimes translates to irresponsibility. He isn't always aware when he is inconveniencing his brother or those around them with his free-spirited and fun-loving attitude. Just because the work can wait doesn't mean it shouldn't get done, after all.

Of course, Sour Apple's attitude isn't always helpful, either. He can easily get lost in work and forget to rest and relax when he needs it. He actually tends to devalue fun and play in favor of work, which in Altairus is something that can lead one open to wendigo attacks.

The Apple twins are known all throughout the continent of Pandora. They tend to stop to sell their wares at big celebrations and events.

Sweet Apple is a bit more social than Sour Apple. He tends to like making small talk with customers, while Sour Apple will just get them what they need and send them off.

Sweet Apple's voice has a slightly higher pitch than Sour Apple's. Both have medium-pitched voices that could either be high-pitched male voices or deep female voices.
