Mr. Twicchit

Henry Samuel Twicchit

Mr. Twicchit, formerly known as Puppetmaster Twicchit, is a disgraced former performer in the Circus of Shadows. He had a stable career as a puppeteer in the Circus of Shadows until the show's ringmaster, Magnus Sunders, shortened his act to make room for their rising star The Great Strombolio's act. Resentful and feeling as though he had been replaced, he ultimately tried to sabotage the little harlequin gremlin's act, something that ended with him getting sacked from the Circus of Shadows.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Mr. Twicchit is physically very small and very weak. Malnutrition and hypothermia have not done him any favors.

Body Features

His third-eye crystal is pumpkin orange. It is usually hidden under his hat. His color-pointed fur pattern gives him dark circles around his eyes and two streaks across his muzzle that resemble a curled mustache, giving him a somewhat-sinister appearance. His black paws resemble gloves to some extent.

Special abilities

Being a nekomata, Mr. Twicchit has the power to reanimate dead things. When he was in the Circus of Shadows, he devised stage shows where he would animate the wooden puppets using his nekomata magic.

Spoiler for "Jack Thunder and the Dawn of Unity"
He uses this ability to sic the wooden animatronics of the Puppet Palace ride on Jack Thunder, Shadow-Paws, and Stephanie Granger.

Apparel & Accessories

Though he is no longer a puppeteer, Mr. Twicchit refuses to give up the attire he wore when he was. He wears a simple black cape and a black top hat. Both of these have become soiled with time.

Spoiler for "Jack Thunder and the Dawn of Unity"
He loses these when he turns himself in and is sentenced to 15 years Pilgrimage. Afterwards, he only wears a pair of worn blue shorts and the cold iron clasps of a pilgrim around his wrists.

Mental characteristics

Employment

Mr. Twicchit was formerly Puppetmaster Twicchit. At the time, he was the top performer in the circus, which led Ringmaster Magnus to tolerate him despite his odious personality.

After his sacking, he faced an unfriendly world where no one would hire him. One winter, Ivy Butternut found him starving and half-frozen and took him in. Ever since then, he was her right-hand man, doing her dirty work for her.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Despite his bad attitude, he managed to maintain his career in the Circus of Shadows for 30 years. That is, until he ruined it all.

Failures & Embarrassments

When Strombolio threatened to replace him, he decided to sabotage the young harlequin gremlin's act. The night before Strombolio's sixth birthday show, he drenched the load-bearing poles of the tent with lighter fluid. When a bolt of magic from Strombolio's hands struck one of the beams, it started a fire, resulting in a chain reaction of events that ended with the entire tent exploding and numerous injuries.

Mr. Twicchit was hoping that Strombolio would be blamed for this. Unfortunately, Ringmaster Magnus quickly discovered the truth. After an absolutely brutal dressing down, Mr. Twicchit was unceremoniously fired from the Circus of Shadows.

Intellectual Characteristics

While Mr. Twicchit fancies himself very smart, he cannot for the life of him understand what he did wrong to warrant his sacking from the Circus of Shadows. Not at first, anyway...

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Twicchit's primary goal is self-preservation. This led him to being in an abusive relationship with Ivy Butternut, whom he stands by to keep her from throwing him back out in the snow.

Spoiler for "Jack Thunder and the Dawn of Unity"

After witnessing the young heroes reform Nemesis, Twicchit begins to change his tune. He finds the courage to stand up to Ivy and ultimately turns himself in to the authorities. By the time his sentencing is handed down, he is determined to turn his life around.

Virtues & Personality perks

Despite everything, Twicchit does regret his actions back when Strombolio was little. Of course, that might be more for himself than for any moral reason, but it's a start.

Spoiler for "Jack Thunder and the Dawn of Unity."

He can also be quite bold and determined when he wants to be. At the end of Jack Thunder and the Dawn of Unity, he stands up to Ivy despite his considerable fear and helps San find them afterwards. And when he's sentenced to Pilgrimage afterwards, he is determined to turn over a new leaf.

Vices & Personality flaws

On the surface, Twicchit appears to be a cowardly bully. Spoiler for "Jack Thunder and the Dawn of Unity"

However, this assessment is not entirely fair. While he does attack Jack Thunder and company, then scurry away when Strombolio shows up, this is not entirely his choice. He is financially dependent on Ivy Butternut, who physically and verbally abuses him. He has a very real fear of both Strombolio's wrath and Ivy throwing him out in the streets again. And he believes there is no more hope for him to get better. Fortunately, seeing Nemesis reformed restores some of his hope, and he manages to find his courage in the end.
