Ill-Fated Fields
If there was a reward for "darkest and spookiest land in all of Altairus," the Ill-Fated Fields would certainly win that title. Located on the south end of the continent of Tamora, only a small stretch of water from the Eternal Desert, the Ill-Fated Fields are the ancestral home of the Ravenheart family and a graveyard filled with the remains of various beings who perished in the War of the Wendigoes. And if the spookiness of the land didn't get you, the vegetation definitely will!
Geography
The Ill-Fated Fields are a vast graveyard with granite headstones stretching into the distance. Sallow, low-growing trees and sad flowers trying to look cheery grow on the graves. The land is shrouded in fog nearly all year round, making it difficult to navigate.
Climate
The Ill-Fated Fields are remarkably chilly at all times of the year. This chill is not so much from natural causes as it is from the constant aura of death that surrounds the fields.
Fauna & Flora
Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Ill-Fated Fields are home to many traditionally "spooky" plants and animals that are associated with the Dark element. Bats and wolves roam the land and sky at night, as do spiders.
Even the vegitation of the Ill-Fated Fields is like something out of a horror novel. The vamp rose, a breed of wild rose that feeds on blood, is endemic to this area. Even the plants that aren't outright horrifying tend to do better in the moonlight than in the sun.
History
The Ill-Fated Fields are the ancestral home of the Ravenheart family. Back in the Golden and Silver Eras, the land was known as Ravenheart's Court. It housed a vast civilization of Vetala, flightless bat people associated with the Dark element. From all accounts, the land thrived.
This all changed when the War of the Wendigoes began. Over the course of those two years, Ravenheart's Court was completely wiped out. Surrounded by death, the remaining members of the Ravenheart family took to burying the dead. When all was said and done, only a vast graveyard remained.
It was here that the land was anointed with its current name. To this day, it is believed that traversing through this land will curse you with the same fate as befell Ravenheart's Court. The only speck of civilization left is Ravenheart's Castle in the distance, inhabited by the last living member of the Ravenheart family, Lord Vladimir Ravenheart.
