Aluma-rot
"It starts like a flu, and by the time you start steaming, it's too late."
Transmission & Vectors
Aluma-rot is transmitted through overexposure to Alumentum. Proximity.
Causes
This can be from being in close to the element, such as breathing fumes, infected by Alumentum, or touching the element with exposed skin.
Symptoms
Treatment
If caught in the first stages of the disease, it is treated as a flu, the patient is given herbal remedies to combat the fever and other symptoms. If discovered in its mid stages, the course of action to take is to bring the patient into a freezing room, and scrub the person vigorously, this is usually incredibly painful, as the skin is very tender. Once scrubbed, if charred parts of the skin are visible, they must be scraped off, as the skin has been infected. In the late stages of the illness, the only thing that can be done is ease the pain and hope that it does not kill them, although people rarely survive its late stages.
Prognosis
At first the symptoms are very similar to that of the flu, later they escalate to extreme feelings of heat, burning of the skin. These feelings can also be followed by what would seem like steam pouring out of the skin, causing dehydration. The final stages are charred holes in skin, followed by death.
Prevention
To prevent the transmission of this illness, wear proper gear when handling Alumentum in its raw state, wear a protective suit, gas mask, and limit the exposure to the element. It is possible to prevent the disease by entering an ice cold pool of water, this has succeeded in the past, but does not have a 100% success rate.
