Alum Union of Grenagem

Structure

The AUG has a council of representatives from various occupations and groups within Grenagem that feel underserved in the alumentum economy, ranging from miners to inventors (although there are more lower-class factions represented in the AUG than upper-class ones).

Public Agenda

The AUG is in a perpetual half-struggle, half-negotiation with the empire in trying to eke out more alumentum for its represented groups.

Assets

The AUG has political allies in fairly high-up places, only a handful of steps removed from the Grenagem council. However, for each of its allies it has several enemies, so the representative council of the AUG is always working very hard to leverage what political sway it does have. The end result often feels to members of the AUG like a "two steps forward, one step back" situation. Although the AUG tries to stay in the political sphere to achieve its goals, it has its roots in active protest, and this has been resurfacing in recent years as the situation with alumentum has not improved for many, if not most members of the AUG.

History

Before there was a formal AUG, radical protest groups made up of desperate workers and civilians struck out, protesting in the streets at first, but also going so far as to steal alumentum from government stores and to march on government facilities known for being "alum hogs". These people were branded as terrorists by the empire and significant suppression was applied to them.   Beaten down, the remnants of this effort banded together and formed the AUG. At first, the AUG stil focused on active protests, but over decades, it changed hands several times and the more political mindset it has become known for in the present day took hold.
