Grail
These majestic birds have influenced folklore over the last thousand years, giving rise to myths of phoenixes and winged angels. While not able to burst into flames or the direct heavenly host of Eloh, grails do have divine origins. They were created by Eloh and serve as the heavenly guardians of goodness on Hilana, protecting the sacred lands and artifacts of Eloh including the Tree of Life and the Master’s Sword. Only a few grails exist in the world and they are sometimes referred to in ancient texts as Cherubims, meaning ‘bird of light’.
Grails glow a comforting yellow color from their feathers and bodies which is an expression of their divinity. This warm light is the same essence as Eventide Candles and is able to repel darklings and the hordes of Scourge. They have the power to heal any wound or ailment and speak through telepathic means. They are incredibly old and wise, having lived through the entire history of the world.
Grails detest violence and will never lead an attack. They rely instead on persuasion and their divine light to turn away those who would seek the sacred monuments and their power for their own gain. When worst comes to worst and the grail is forced to fight to protect its charge, grails do not prolong the battle, making swift decisive strikes that end the fight in seconds. They will leave their attacker alive if they can and send them away with a warning to never return on pain of death. These birds are not messing around.
