Mortal Story
During the long war between the Amphibians—frog‑ and salamander‑folk of the southern wetlands—and the Ant Men, Vaerdim rose as an unlikely leader. The ant warriors struck with uncanny coordination, as if guided by an invisible hand. Villages fell, ambushes succeeded, and the Amphibians seemed doomed.
Vaerdim, however, was not content to fight blindly. Capturing several Ant Men, he studied them tirelessly. He discovered that their coordination came not from spoken words, but from chemical signals secreted through specialized glands. For weeks he experimented, until he devised a spell to interpret these signals. At first, it gave only warnings of incoming attacks. But when he perfected a second spell—one that could replicate and send false signals—the tide of war shifted.
The Amphibians became predators instead of prey. They ambushed Ant Men patrols, redirected supply lines, and sowed chaos in enemy ranks. Guerrilla warfare turned in their favor, and the Ant Men, realizing their secret language was compromised, abandoned it altogether.
With peace restored, Vaerdim turned his genius to his people’s future. He created spells and systems of communication that endured for generations, ensuring that no Amphibian clan would ever again be isolated or defenseless.
Ascension
Vaerdim’s brilliance and foresight made him a hero not only in war but in peace. His people revered him as the one who had safeguarded their survival and given them the tools to thrive. At his death, their devotion elevated him to godhood.
Now, Vaerdim is worshipped as the god of Communication and Safekeeping. He embodies the idea that knowledge is protection, and that understanding the hidden signals of the world can preserve entire peoples.
