Farers

The Farers are one of the four Sentient species of Allwanduir. They are nomadic quadrupeds, sometimes designated as « three-footers » (now derogatory) because they can be seen traveling on three limbs, using either one of their upper limbs as an arm.

Basic Information

Anatomy

They are the least humanoid creatures among the Non-Talkers, and are especially recognizable from the shape of their elbows. In certain postures, they might remind of centaurs, but their body is nothing like that of horses. Their hairiness varies greatly depending on the season, ranging from as little as a hairy human male to 3cm of fur all over the body.

Growth Rate & Stages

Puberty at 14 (7,5) for females and 15 (8) for males in average.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Mainly carnivorous, but can be omnivorous.

Biological Cycle

Their course follows seasons and milder and drier climates. They are also seafarers and have colonized most of the known world on their own, and even better so polar regions. A Farer can survive self-sufficiently at the poles whereas an Allwanduirian cannot. They play a huge role in economics and are renowned for taking hard tasks to perform for ridiculous wages. They are a highly adaptive species and live in the conscious aim to adapt more to anything.

Additional Information

Social Structure

They set camps of 100 to 260 individuals and dwell for 10 to 45 days (8 to 38 days) before setting out.

Facial characteristics

The face is elongated, reminding that of a horse, but shorter and more expressive. The jaw sticks out a lot compared to humanoid faces. The nose is wide and feline, the ears small. The eyes are small, slightly curved in the shape of a crescent. A dark brown, reddish mane comes down from the top of the head to the back of the neck, forming collars of fur in old specimens.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Worldwide, including the polar regions, but with the exception of drier climates.

Average Intelligence

  • Sentience factor: 0,97
  • Technological factor: 0,51
  • Intellectual factor: 1
  • Spiritual factor: 0,21

Civilization and Culture

Major Language Groups and Dialects

For all the aformentioned reasons, they are perceived as blunt, but they are extremely intelligent, simply not very communicative. Their sign language is the most minimalistic among the Non-Talkers, with only 250 basic concepts, and no written form whatsoever. They base their culture upon expected patterns of behavior, managed by strict tacit rules, rendering communication mostly obsolete.

History

The Farers entered the Common History as late as in the 5th century (about 4,200 years ago), not by retardation but by choice. Until the 55th century (6th century), they were more technologically advanced than Allwanduirians. They serve as a reference for the intellectual factor for measuring sentient skills.
