Pharasma discovers a radiant blossom in her timeless graveyard. She plucks it and names it Hope.
The Elurian people have a rich tradition in telling the story of the world (and of their very important) place within it. The sages, skeptical lot that they are, have dubbed the more outlandish and unconfirmed claims as "mythohistory" - perhaps wholly true, possessing a grain of truth, or (more likely) utter bollocks.
Pharasma discovers a radiant blossom in her timeless graveyard. She plucks it and names it Hope.
Hope knew that the Pharasma ’s graveyard was both endless and eternal. To escape, she took two corners of reality and pulled them apart. The bottom peace she called Sea; the upper, Sky.
Hope fashions a cloak of radiance and ascends to the heavens. She names herself Sarenrae.
Due to Sarenrae’s warmth, the sea begins to thaw.
As the sea ice recedes, a heartbeat begins from Sarenrae's radiance. The First Giant, Thrym, is born.
Thrym, the First Mortal, falls into a deep slumber and has a beautiful dream. When he wakes, he pines for that experience. Sarenrae decides that dreaming is good.
Sarenrae forms Desna out of Thrym’s dreams. To give her mortal child a restful slumber, she shares the Sky with her new daughter. Night and day begin.
Thrym pines for the beautiful Desna and she for him. They pledge each to the other and invent marriage.
The dreams of Thrym inspire Sarenrae to raise land and create abundant plant life. Elder flora and fauna thrive. Gozreh is made to protect Sarenrae's lush woodlands.
Desna delivers her first children: the Giants.
The Giants build a city they call Heim. The greatest architect among them, Torag, masters all the crafts of his folk.
Thrym and Desna produce the race of Dwarves, the Second-Born.
The Giants make the first war on the Dwarves, and in the midst of battle, Gorum appears and lays out the rules of warfare.
The elder flora forests mature and the gates to the Feywild open. The Elves and many fey creatures migrate to Alkun.
Torag teaches the Dwarves his Stonegift. They retreat to the mountains and begin mining for precious resources.
A small number of Elves and Dwarves mate. Their offspring, the Gnomes result.
The Elves, having examined the ebb and flow of the moons, discover the magical energies present in the world. Many spells are created and the Art is codified.
As they explore the extent of magic, the Elves discover that they can open gateways to other planes. They inadvertently allow the Dark Ones access to Ceros: Asmodeus, Lamashtu, Norgorber, Rovagug, Urgathoa, and Zon-Kuthon.
The Elves, seduced by the Dark Ones, splinter into subgroups. The warriors, the Yrch are convinced by Rovagug; the priest caste (d'Rau) are lured to serve Asmodeus. The remainder flee, eventually becoming associated with the terrain into which they hid.
Foul magical forces and the influence of the Dark Ones cause chaos: lands are flooded, earthquakes, upheavals and volcanoes alter the face of Ceros. Where once land covered much of the world, now only two major continents (Thestra and Qalia) and a scattering of islands remained.
The remaining Elves, Dwarves and some Giants rebel against the Dark Ones driving them and their forces into the wastelands.
Following the war, and with the mingling of the races, the first humans emerge. Born on what is now the continent of Qalia, humans are dark-skinned and dark-eyed, with curly, black hair.
The human population developed into two main tribes: Wind-Man and Earth-Man. The former migrated to the southern Qalia coast, and the latter remained in the heartland and northern coast.
As humans become the dominant race, the Elves, Dwarves, Giants and others seek less populated regions for themselves. Flora and fauna become primitive.
Dyrewood, Dimwold, Kraag Kharag, and Grimhold are founded as the elder races withdraw to the wilder places of the world.
The ancient tribe of Earth-Man splits into two main tribes: the Mordebi (who dwell in Central Qalia) and Qaliathari (who migrate to the northern coast and Homeward Sea regions).
The Dwarves of Flint Ridge make an alliance with the Qaliathari of the north coast of Qalia. They share their Stonegift with the humans. The first permanent human camps emerge, along with rudimentary trade. The Stonegift is unevenly shared.
Humans develop animism and spirituality, eventually leading to the oldest human cults. The Wind-Man tribe divides along differences in belief traditions to become the Kojani and the Erilia. The Kojani depart for the Southern Isles, whereas the Erilia settle the southeastern edge of Qalia and the archipelagos nearby.
Halflings assist humans, teaching agriculture and animal husbandry. The first true human settlements develop as nomadism becomes less common. The great tribal King, Erastil ben Awla, organizes communities around agriculture and craft, balancing human flourishing and stewardship of the land. No one knows where the Halflings came from.
Settlements lead to the oldest human cities; cities lead to temples; temples lead to formal religious organizations. Primitive shipbuilding develops, and coastal trade links most of northern Qalia.
A few days following the death of their mentor, the Qaliathari venerate Erastil, triggering his apotheosis.
A minor warlord among the Qaliathari comes to prominence and organizes a professional corps of soldiers. Together they systematically capture settlement after settlement, creating the first stable nation-state.
King Eluron is crowned in the great city of Khal on the northern shore of Qalia. He establishes a legal system, standardizes trade and coinage, and encourages religious practices as part of public life. A professional buraucracy forms to maintain records and support the royal household.
The first King of Khal (renamed Eluria in his honor) dies, leaving the throne to his son.
Sutos the Just, formerly Lord Marshal becomes King. Despite not being of royal blood, the late King Severus named him heir.
Sutos establishes Elurian colonies as far north as the southern coast of Thestra.
King Sutos arrives in the colonial outpost of Blackport to great celebration. The Council of Nobles names Sutos Emperor. He assumes the name Irori.
Emperor Irori passes away in Blackport. His son Patros ascends to the throne.
Elurian settlers push the borders of the Empire through southcentral and southeastern Thestra (modern day Five Ports, Varisia and Independent Lands), founding cities and fortresses.
Goblin tribes from the Southern Barrier mountains raided Imperial frontier settlements for over two decades before Emperor Caiphas III committed to military action. The goblins were driven from their overland settlements to caverns and tunnels beneath the mountains.
A period of favorable weather, bumper crops and robust trade spurs the growth of Imperial wealth and population -- mainly on the Thestran continent.
Following on years of unprecidented growth and plenty, a new generation of settlers seek lands to tame. Moving north of the Southern Barriers, these folk begin settling the central (now called Elurian) basin of Thestra, including the modern lands of the River Kingdoms and what is now the Elurian Empire.
