Anenti

The ancient language spoken by the First Peoples was widely used and has survived in small part today, is known as Anenti. Not much written history gives us clues as to who created the language or even how it came to have been spoken all across Aliria. It has survived partially through idioms and slang terms used in common today.   Anenti is also known as the "language of breath and wind." Given its airiness and lightness compared to other ancient languages like the stoic and blunt languages passed from the Prime Movers or the ancient dragonkin with their harsh tones and lack of manners. Anenti is soft, flowing, and melodic.   Idioms that have lasted to current times and the slang associated with them:   "Nul shan thalri." - Literal translation of this is "Light watches where shadows gather." But a common slang across many groups of western cities is to simply say "thalri." The word used to be associated with watchers, or spies, so it has become a sort of derogatory term in certain circumstances. Ex: "Don't trust anyone from the Hollow, it's crawling with thalri."   "Sil'hanu vren saaruun." - Literal translation of this is "All rivers lead to ocean." "Saaruun" refers to the ocean, this is often the shorthand for sailors and those venturing up or down stream, or heading off on long journeys by ocean, as a form of goodbye or get back safely.   "Lairu senoth vahira." - Literal translation of this is "A featherfall fate." Commonly among those who frequent gambling houses, someone might say they've experienced a "senoth" or a turn of their luck. Normally it is used when bad luck turns to good luck.   "Venli th'san valea" - Literal translation of this is "Mist binds the mountain." Unseen connections can hold strong bonds. It used to mean a secret alliances or unspoken rules, but now "vahira" is used as a simple term to mean a strong bond between cities, or groups, or individuals. Ex: "There's vahira between those two, ever since they were children, I knew this day would come."
