Storm Crystals

Mined from dangerous eternal storms in the Plane of Elemental Air or found at the heart of floating islands, storm crystals power the economics of the elemental plane of Air. Storm crystals fuel the airships, keep both natural and mortal made islands aloft, and are inherently magical. Naturally buoyant in there raw state, large clusters power eternal storms that rage across the plane. These storms are a source of danger as well as wealth, as even the act of mining the crystal hearts of these storms risks rapid lightning strikes, spontaneous elemental generation, as well as disturbing the squall squids that take up nest in these storms. After braving the storm and its dangers, the battered airships return to port where alchemists refine the crystals into airship fuel, sota, and refined storm crystal.
