Dwarf

Crafted by Jarfon, Dwarves are seen as a hardy, tough people who would endure anything. This is only true in some dwarves, much like not all elves are graceful. And many a wise, and a not too proud dwarf will concede that Goblins are tougher as a whole from the harms of environment. They are gifted with the ability to see in the dark, a strong scene of smell, and toughness to a point, making mining and brewing playing to their strengths. But a community needs more then miners and brewers, so dwarves of all skills exist. Outside of the physical traits a dwarf is born with, the two traits most imporatian for a dwarf are proper breathing and arguing. Proper breathing is for it is breath that animates the dwarven soul into life, and thus manuals of breath are common in dwarven homes. Arguing is a skill that any gathering of dwarves will in its number possess a master. Dwaves do not horde wealth like dragons, but have a fine eye for the natural beauty of stone.

Dwarven Families of the old rune can reliably trace their bloodline to one of the first fourteen dwarf holds founded by Jarfon. Each of the dwarf holds is represented by a eldar rune, which the family rune is built from.

  15. As bloodlines (Mushan Mitt) are traced through knowledge and family traditions, being from one of the old family only counts if the dwarf in question knows the past down knowledge. The knowledge in question for the old rune is the stories of the families achievements in the time deities walked with mortals. For more younger bloodlines it is the more recent achievements, or blessed words given by a Jarfon priest. The difference between adoption and being born to a parent is if the dwarf in question knows the family knowledge.

Blessed with dark sight, able to see in the dark. There darkvision is best at close to mid range unlike the far range of elves.

Beauty Ideals

The facial hair of a dwarf is held exacting cultural standards as dwarven facial is believed to be keeper of the dwarven soul. While no one style or form is universally beautiful, most dwarves hold longer beard as better. For story telling dwarves hold perfect retelling and keeping the myths and stories unchanged by time through memory.

Gender Ideals

Dwaven culture does not have as much a hard divide between different genders.

Courtship Ideals

Formal courtship of traditional dwarves begins with a the presentation of the elder rune of courtship between suitors, preferably at a feast.

"how do you tell a gnome and a dwarf apart? The gnome eats poison, the dwarf drinks it!" - Underdark joke It can to some unlearned folk, be hard to tell a dwarf and a gnome apart. Both gnomes and Dwarves build mechanical contraptions, hold strong communal ties, value rocks and crystals and mainly live underground. However a dwarven mechanial constructions are built from patterns making them more uniform then gnomesh constructs. A gnomesh construct is more multi purpose then a dwarvish one. A dwarf holds strong ties to their family, a gnome holds strong ties to their location and neighbors. But as the underdark joke goes, dwarven drinks are too strong for anyone but a dwarf, and gnomish food is only for the strong of gut.
