Kreld (/kɹɛld/)

Krelds are the most numerous and politically dominant species in the galaxy. Originating from the vibrant and resource-rich planet of Klïtha, the Krelds have established themselves as the backbone of galactic civilization. Their adaptability, resourcefulness, and sociopolitical influence have allowed them to expand beyond their homeworld, creating millions of colonies ranging from bustling metropolitan hubs to remote outposts in uncharted regions of space.  

Physical Characteristics

  Krelds are bipedal, with heights ranging from 1.5 to 2.1 meters. Their skin tones vary widely due to environmental adaptations across their colonies, ranging from pale hues on colder worlds to deep browns and tans in high-radiation or warmer climates. Their eye color can vary widely based on genetics. Colors include shades of blue, green, brown, and gray, with rare occurrences of violet or gold due to genetic mutations. Hair textures and colors differ significantly based on colony heritage, though natural shades of black, brown, blonde, and red dominate. There is less common shades of white, orange and gray, thought these colors are far less seen when compared to the main shades. As Krelds age, their hair typically turns to a light white, including beards and body hair. This is the most common and easy way to tell if a Kreldian is older or not. There are rare occurrences where a Kreld's hair color will stay the same shade throughout their entire life, this is almost never seen. Krelds lifespans have largely increased since their early, planet-bound years. Their original lifespan was on average 50 to 80 SGY, nowadays they have an average lifespan of 90 to 120 standard galactic years, though advanced medical technology has extended this significantly for wealthier individuals.   While not the strongest species, Krelds possess above-average stamina, making them excellent candidates for endurance-based activities such as long-term exploration and military service. They are often the backbone of the Republic army, both soldiers and officers. Krelds are an extremely intelligent species, thought the level of intelligence can vary from person to person. Some of the most important scientists have been Kreldian.  

Culture and Society

  Kreld culture is as diverse as their many colonies, with traditions and practices varying widely depending on location and planetary conditions. However, there are core societal principles that unite the species. All Krelds pride themselves on their ability to thrive in nearly any environment, whether it's a harsh desert, a frozen tundra, or a high-gravity planet. They can live in a cold blizzard planet one day and the next day thrive on a sweltering hot desert planet.   Krelds are a very social species, needing to be surrounded by other Krelds or species. Despite their vast numbers, Krelds maintain strong social structures, with family and community playing central roles in their lives. Often very open to other species, forming tight bonds with anyone/thing that is willing. Though there are some small groups that are Kreld Supremacist or blatantly anti-alien, though this is a small number of them compared to the average.   Krelds value progress and innovation, leading to their dominance in politics, science, and the arts. Kreldian culture thrives on the ability to express oneself, be it through art, music, food, politics or any outlet that the individual deems as important. Society around them often supports this freedom of expression, though this also means that negative and hateful rhetoric can be present as well.  

Language

  The primary language of the Krelds is Kreldian, a complex yet adaptable language with regional dialects based on planetary colonies. Kreldian is also the foundation for the Galactic Standard Language, spoken across the galaxy.  

Art and Philosophy

  Kreld art emphasizes symbolism and storytelling, often reflecting their history of exploration and conquest. Philosophically, they value curiosity, resilience, and cooperation, which has allowed them to maintain a strong presence in galactic politics and diplomacy.  

Planet of Origin

  Klïtha, the Krelds’ homeworld, is a lush and diverse planet located in the Galactic Core. Its varied ecosystems, ranging from expansive forests and vast oceans to towering mountain ranges, provided the Krelds with the resources and challenges necessary for their early development. The atmosphere, rich in oxygen and nitrogen, is ideal for supporting humanoid life. This atmospheric mix is the basis for planetary classification. The planets gravity is slightly higher than the galactic average, 1 G_s (9.81 m/s²), contributing to the Krelds' relatively robust physical endurance. This is the baseline for the galactic gravity standard. Other planets gravity is described by this planets gravity. Klïtha's climate is temperate, with diverse biomes supporting a wide range of flora and fauna. There are vast deserts, frozen tundras, wet rainforest and tall mountain ranges to name a few of the biomes that Krelds survive within.   While Klïtha remains an important cultural and political center, its population has decreased over the centuries as Krelds expanded across the galaxy.  

Galactic Influence

  The Krelds are considered the cornerstone of the Galactic Republic, holding the majority of leadership positions in both the government and military. Their political systems are based on meritocracy, where individuals rise through the ranks based on skill and contribution rather than lineage or wealth. Although corruption exists in all forms, which allows nepotism or bribery to be tools some individuals use to get further than their own merits would allow. These people are often looked down upon in Kreld society, though this does not stop the practice from happening.

• Complacency: Some critics argue that their dominance has made them overconfident, potentially leaving them vulnerable to rising powers.
• Reproduction Rates: Though numerous, Kreld reproduction rates are slower compared to some other species, making population growth a concern in prolonged conflicts.

 

Relationships with Other Species

  The Krelds' galactic influence has earned them both allies and adversaries. Species like the [], who admire the Krelds' resilience and innovation, often work closely with them in scientific and diplomatic ventures. Certain species view the Krelds' dominance as overbearing, leading to conflicts over territory and autonomy. Many Outer Rim species remain skeptical of the Krelds, wary of their expansionist tendencies but appreciative of their technological contributions. Overall the view of the Krelds is positive, more often than not being viewed as an overall benefit to the galactic community.  

Legacy

  The Krelds' influence on galactic civilization is unmatched. As the most numerous and politically dominant species, they have shaped the galaxy’s laws, culture, and technology. While their dominance is not without challenges, the Krelds’ legacy as explorers, innovators, and leaders is firmly cemented in galactic history.
