Drairy (Dr-Air-ee)
The original protectors.
"Long, silky braids with feathers and sticks intertwined into the hair, one for each year of their life. Like our tattoos, symbolistic and precious. A beautiful people, overlooked in the order of things." - Harper to Mason.
History
In the days of old, when Alea was Almaria and humans had no knowledge of the land below the soil, the Drairy were there, building, trading and growing. Records were not well kept among them, but it is believed the first Drairy was called Grenn and was believed to have been gifted his magic by a Shadow Drow, an ancient creature fabled to have stolen children from their parents and eaten them. It is said Grenn killed a Shadow Drow and claimed some of its power. Of course, this power was evil, and so was Grenn. Their magic was corrupt, black magic that could be used to purge land and control minds. Through generations, the blood thinned and Drairy magic has more practical lighter uses. The term "Drairy" comes from the human's mythical creature "Fairy" and the Shadow "Drow" that Grenn killed. Drairies have a deep connection with every lost Drairy soul. When a parent dies, it joins thier ancestors in its child's head. One Drairy can have access to over 100 lost Drairy souls, ancestors who have passed. A Drairy can hear these voices in their head or summon a shadow of them to appear in the real world. Because of this unique power, Drairies have a good knowledge of their people's history, the only issue is, they never wrote it down, and they do not let outsiders in on their knowledge.Appearance
Much like the Daimon, Drairy have a human-like appearance. Their hair is often lightly coloured, long and twisted into magnificent braids, that increase with age and their ears are pointy but square. Their eyes are stoney grey or a light shade of blue, and their skin can take on many colours. These people usually reach a height range of 3'9-4'10 with adulthood, standing as tall as a human preteen on average, their hair usually reaching the ground behind them. Drairies clothes are often neutral colours, blending into the forest environment they originate from, though urban Drairies often adapt to the city colours and climate. Drairies of all genders have their long braids, though it is typical of male Drairies to keep their locks at waist length.Life expectancy
Drairy have a unique connection with death, insuring that their souls never die, only their body. Drairy can live up to an age of 300 in their earthly bodies, and then another 5000 years within the minds of their ancestors, never truly vanishing from existence, only joining the line of past Drairies to give knowledge and wisdom to their children. They age at a much slower rate than humans and they reach adulthood at 70 years old.Dwellings
Within Daimon society, Drairy are shunned, and forced to live in the Silvian slums, a dirty and disgusting place filled with the very bottom of the social hierarchy. Though these confines are only endured by the urban Drairies, those who are banished from their homelands, or choose to live among the Daimons for protection. Drairies originate from the Ferren Wilds, a continent across the Alea sea that most don't even know exist save for the higher ups in society. This continent is much like Alea, but covered in thick forests and jungles, and many Drairies make their homes here in trees or under the ground. However, the Sullik Tribe of Rikoren threaten their existence on this continent, constantly raiding their homes with the intention of pushing them out and claiming the continent for themselves.Opinions on other races.
- "Daimon are narcissistic, pompous and fragile creatures that claim their lives more valuable than ours. They are no friends of our people" - Rural Drairy
- "Although they are self-important animals, the Daimon offer me their protection in return for my services." - urban Drairy.
- "Of all the races, Human's have the least quarrels with us, before their world was shut off from ours, we had no issue with them." - your average Drairy.
- "The Rikoren are our enemies. their culture harbours war and cruelty." - Rural Drairy.
- "I have not encountered the Rikoren tribes, but my people have bad blood with them and I do not wish to encounter one." - Urban Drairy.

Although all Drairy come from the same line, some have evolved slightly differently over the millennia. The Vin Drairy count themselves as the more modern of the two subraces. They are the majority of the Drairies who live in the slums of Alea, adapting to more urban life. They came about after a blood disease took the lives of several thousand lives in the Ferren wilds. The cure ended up creating a new race of Drairy, with several blood mutations that gave them unique abilities, and lost them others.Appearance
Vin Drairy have the same long and beautiful braids as their Don Drairy brethren, but they are often weaved with a golden lace that separates them from the rest of the Drairies. They also tend to be ever so slightly taller, seeing heights closer to the end of 4 feet and no less than that. Other than these small things, they look the same as the Don Drairy.Traits
