Lord Odis, The Loyal Hound

Mythos and Ascension

In a time long forgotten, Odis was but a scrappy mutt — loyal, dirty-furred, and stubborn to a fault. He belonged to a humble man: a wandering bard by the name of Ellian Marr who made his coin from stories and kindness. When a Lich, scorned by a song that recalled his mortal life, cursed the bard with a wasting plague, Odis did what any dog would do: he attacked.   But fang and claw cannot defeat undeath. The Lich, amused by the dog’s blind devotion, cursed him with sentience — a cruel act meant to break his spirit, to force him to understand how powerless he was. Yet instead of despair, Odis found deeper purpose. With his new awareness, he vowed never to leave his master’s side.   He dragged the bard's dying body across forests, mountains, and forgotten roads. He faced gods, spirits, and ancient guardians. Legends say Odis passed trials laid by celestial beings, and that his loyalty echoed so fiercely through the fabric of the planes that even the stars took notice. Through a mysterious convergence — whether divine mercy, a cosmic pact, or sheer force of will — Odis ascended.   He became a Lord, a minor deity in form, but immense in presence. His master, now fully immortal through divine transmutation, sits ever at his side as a silent companion — a symbol of the bond that defied death and despair.

Worship and Followers

Odis is venerated by:   Soldiers and mercenaries who fight not for glory, but for those they protect.   Caretakers, nurses, and healers who sit vigil by the bedsides of the sick and dying.   Loners, orphans, and outcasts, who find companionship in stray animals or fleeting friendships.   Paladins and guardians who value loyalty above law.   His temples are rarely grand. Most are roadside shrines, carved into stones at crossroads, built beside grave markers, or found near hearths in humble homes. Offerings include scraps of food, woven collars, dog carvings, or simple oaths spoken aloud in solitude.

Divine Realm – The Hearth Beyond the Horizon

Odis's divine plane is a quiet and eternal twilight field: soft grass, crackling fires, and a sky painted with fading stars. Known as The Hearth Beyond the Horizon, this realm is where loyal companions are reunited, and broken bonds are healed. Souls who died in solitude often find themselves welcomed here by a wagging tail and a warm hand.

Tenets of Odis

Stand by those you love, even when they falter.   Endure hardship without surrender.   Protect the weak not for gain, but for love.   Never break an oath of the heart.   Even the lowliest creature can hold divine purpose.

Depiction in Art

Odis is typically depicted as a large hound — mutt-like in features but regal in stance. His fur is midnight black with streaks of silver, eyes glowing amber with eternal vigilance. He is often shown beside a dying man, pulling a cart or dragging a cloak, or standing between a traveler and a looming shadow.   Sometimes, artists portray Odis with a broken chain trailing from his collar — not as a symbol of bondage, but of a bond so strong that even the chains of death could not sever it.
