Darith's Folly (dare ITH)

the Cave to Zith Morra

The small, unassuming, double-mouthed cave known as Darith's Folly, sometimes referred to as just 'the Folly,' sits in the foothills of Lhakamed, fifty miles southwest of Pier’s Peak. The cave's two opening, stand one on top the other, and converge within a few hundred feet of the entrance. The Folly is the beginning of a long gradual descending tunnel, leading towards Pier's Peak. Relatively speaking this natural cavern is a direct highway to Zith Morra, the Juhl'are city at the heart of the mountain. Entering Darith's Folly and moving at a steady pace, the traveler will arrive at the city within two to three days. There are very few branches to this tunnel, which gives the traveler the advantage of not getting lost. The disadvantage comes with the fact that is it the most well know tunnel to the surface and well patrolled by the dark elves. It is often thin in many places, allowing little more than a single unincumbered person to pass at a time. An easy choke point for those patrols. Its wider caverns are covered in forests of stalactites hanging from the ceiling and stalagmites growing from the floor, making for good ambush locations.

The Folly's external mouth is located in one of the many ravines of the region, making it hard to find by most travelers. Even those with maps showing its location, can walk right past it if they are not paying attention. Odd blue Nura like lights often appear in the region, both night and day, seeming to disorient any foolish enough to use them as a landmark or guide. These lights appear and remain in a location for hours, or days, only to vanish, or move randomly. They vanish if any living being approach them. There are never more than one or two of these at once, usually miles apart. Neither Human nor dark elf have any explanation for these lights.
