Aibib (ah Beeb)
Land of the First Ones
Aibib is a mountainous coastal region of eastern Dergonhad. It is isolated from the rest of the major continet by Dadon Duul Hahad, a long stretching mountain range to its west. The region is, for the most part, only accessible by sea travel.
At first viewing Aibib seems a poor region for a flourishing civilization, with massive rock formations and steep hills. However, these geologic features created many bays, inlets and natural harbors that are perfect for seafaring people. The nation of Baru has thrived in the region since its founding in the late Lakorthian Age. Adding to this, none of the great beasts and monsters that plague the interior of Dergonhad have ever found their way to Aibib, making it one of the safer regions of the major continent.
Its isolation from the rest of the continent left the native people largely cut off from other civilizations. Dadon Duul Hahad is a difficult mountain range to cross. Contact with outside civilizations has always been through sea travel through the ages. This left the region undeveloped until the rise of the Viakagi. In the Viakagi Era Aibib became a major launching point for the invasions of the major continent of Ethae across the Cota Ocean.
Today one can say the region is both thriving and struggling. Baru has grown into a major trade hub, not only for trade across the Cota Ocean to Ethae, but for the other nations of the east coast of Dergonhad. Each of these nations, most of which are at war with one another, buying and selling goods through Baru. This has put the Bayu people in a comfort level never seen by their ancestors. Outside ports, like Songau, Aibib is underdeveloped. Natural forests cover the sloping hills. The steep hills make for poor farmland, meaning the Bayu import most of their food.
