Grydde
Grydde, sometimes referred to as Gweraz for its origin, is a deadly fungal infection wherein small whiteish-grey mushrooms grow within the bloodstream and eventually begin to eat at the rest of the body.
Transmission & Vectors
The spores are transmitted via syringe after being dissolved in a liquid.
Treatment
The only chance of survival with Gyrdde is intervention with antibiotics which kill the fungus, and repeated blood transfusions which 'clean' the blood. The blood transfusions often require rituals, which are administered with variations by local priests or guilds.
Prognosis
If antibiotics and blood transfusions are administered properly, the patient has a survival rate of 90% within 2 years, 50% within 5 years, and 20% within 10 years.
Otherwise the disease is fatal.
Sequela
If the victim survives with the intervention of antibiotics or blood transfusion (or a combination of both), they typically develop serious blood disorders. The most common is aplastic anemia, along with low blood pressure. They have memory issues, and may die of organ failure more easily. It is often possible for parts where the mushrooms have fused with the body to go gangrenous and have to be amputated.
History
It takes formal training in alchemy from the Temple of Formaldehyde to learn to brew the mixture, and an understanding of local flora to breed the mushrooms. Thus the Gweraz ritual is thought initially be a Myacoris tradition which was adopted by the Clockmakers during their alliance after the fall of Hanoez.
The first recorded death from Grydde was after a small revolt in Pestilentia when they first became subjects of Lodonesia. The first recorded outbreak is the Myacoris Mass Disappearance.
