Fairy Fauna

Description

The realm of the Fey is known to be one of the most corrupting, its natural magic is so pervasive that almost all who enter are permanently changed. This is true for animals, which are abundant in the realm of the fey. Though much like our plain non anomalous animal species thrive, in Anwwn they are joined by corrupted creatures. The Magic of Anwwn often imbeds itself in the very being of an affected animal. This magical corruption often presents itself in bizarre colouration, growth of new appendages, and access to new magics.  

Morphology

For the most part Fairy Fauna will resemble non anomalous animal species found throughout all realms and across our globe. These animals will however be corrupted by the magic of the fey, turning their skins and furs into strange iridescent colours. In most cases animals will turn a vibrant mix of various colours. Common colours are blue, red, green, yellow, purple, pink, and white. Most often these colours will be vivid and almost glow from the creature. In turn most Fairy Fauna will be patterned with bizarre and almost geometric colourations across their bodies. Most animals' physical forms will also be twisted and bent, to better suit the realm of the fey.   Many species will too sprout now limbs, in most cases wings, extra arms, and rarely an extra head. Often animals of the same species will undergo similar transformations, becoming common creatures across the fey realm. Non anomalous cows of all bovine species are all affected in a similar way, growing wings and becoming a wide array of colours. Similar swine species grow wings and often turn vivid colours. Growth and Creation

Fairy Fauna is created when non anomalous animal species wander into the realm of the fey. Fairy Fauna can also be naturally generated within the realm of Anwwn by resident non anomalous species. Certain Fairy Fauna are chosen by elves and high born fey to act as companion and working animals. However the vast majority of Fairy Fauna follows the same creation as other Realm-bound Fauna. Animals sacrificed to the gods of the Fey are always transformed into an instance of Fairy Fauna. This has led to large numbers of Horses, Cows, Pigs, Goats, Deer, and Dogs becoming Fairy Fauna due to sacrifices made by ancient Celtic tribes.    

Abilities

Fairy Fauna instances are often able to cast low tier Anwwnian magic. In most cases this is being able to change their fur and skin colours at will, producing magical expulsions, flight, and exaggerated intelligence. These abilities vary from instance to instance.    

Behaviour and Psychology

Fairy Fauna has often been described as more intelligent than their non anomalous counterparts. Some instances have been able to show problem solving and complex understanding capabilities. Fairy Fauna is able to be tamed and domesticated much like non anomalous species. Tamed or Domesticated instances are often extremely loyal to their masters.    

Habitat & Diet

Fairy Fauna predominantly reside in the realm of Anwwn, though throughout history have been found to accidentally wander into our realm. Due to the similarities between our realms Fairy Fauna is often able to persist and remain undetected. Anomalous mutations in Fairy Fauna often give them far better chances in the wild when compared to their non anomalous counterparts.    

Combat & Containment

Fairy Fauna are easily captured and terminated, instances are to be considered no smarter than their non anomalous counterparts and should be treated as such. Due to the wide variety in Fairy Fauna instances it is recommended to view the Fairy Fauna Subspecies and Variants collection below.  

Subspecies and Variants

A wide variety of Fairy Fauna is recorded to commonly exist. Though almost any non anomalous creature can become Fairy Fauna some have become resident species of Anwwn. These resident species are known to hold large populations within the realm of Anwwn and are more commly encountered.  

Fairy Bear

- Large sleep loving bears with pelts of midnight blue speckled with iridescent silver.  

Fairy Bird

- Rainbow coloured crows and magpies that fly in great flocks through the anwwnian sky.  

Fairy Cat

- Small multi coloured feline, often bare large gins and communicate psychically.  

Fairy Colt

- Pastel coloured horses used by the resident fey as steeds and working mules.  

Fairy Hound

- Brightly coloured hounds used as companions and hunters by the resident fey.  

Fairy Wolf

- Multi Colored wolves that prowl the countryside of Anwwn, always covered in a thick pastel fog that bleeds from their fur.  

Fairy Serpent

- Iridescent and rainbow scaled snakes that have a venom that causes potent psychedelic effects.  

Fairy Spider

- Tarantula sized multicoloured spiders that weave rainbow webs with great proficiency.  

Winged Pig

- Brightly coloured pig with pigeon like wings that sprout from its back.  

Winged Cow

- Multicolouered cow with large eagle wings that flies from field to field in a lumbering mess.  

Myths, Legends and Incidents

Fairy Fauna appear in myths and legends from every culture across the globe, it is almost impossible to record all human encounters. During the Mythic Era Fairy Fauna was far more prevalent in our realm. Since the persecution of anomalous creatures however, expat fairy fauna have failed to survive in our realm.
