Aeroquine

Description

An Aeroquine or as it is far better known a Pegasus is a winged horse capable of flight and higher intelligence. Resembling a common horse these winged steeds are often prized for their abilities and regal appearance. Aeroquine were once commonplace in the mythic era though have become far rarer in modern times.  

Morphology

Aeroquine resemble a white horse, most often mimicking common horses native and prevalent in their general environment. Most Aeroquine are similar in size to non anomalous horse breeds though have wings of a roughly 8 metre wingspan. The feathers that make up these wings are often similar in construction to that of a bird of prey. Though for the most part Aeroquine appear with a white coat some can appear with varied or patterned coats, such instances are exceedingly rare however. In many Aeroquine it is common for their manes and tails to be white or gold in colour though some instances have held manes of blue, red, and even green. The wings sit roughly halfway down the back of the Aeroquine.   It is common knowledge in anomalous circles that Aeroquine are created by deities in order to act as steeds for their chosen. This has also unintentionally led to a large population of native Aeroquine within the confines of certain realms. It is believed that many of the modern Aeroquine encountered have unintentionally slipped into our realm.  

Aeroquine Skeletal and Muscle Structure

Aeroquine bones have been found to share an incredibly similar structure to bird bones. Much like the bones of non anomalous bird species the bones of an Aeroquine are ‘hollow’. This reduces the weight of an Aeroquine by a substantial level and allows steed to ascend to the heavens. Furthermore it should be noted that in general Aeroquine appear to be lean, especially in the shoulders and even more so at the wing connections. Though these attributes do allow Aeroquine to fly it does give them a modicum of weakness against impacts.  

Abilities

First and foremost is the ability of flight in Aeroquine, under normal circumstances Aeroquine should be unable to fly. Thanks to its incredibly strong muscles and lightweight skeleton however the Aeroquine are able to take flight. It should be noted that whilst in flight Aeroquine will often gallop their legs as if running through the air. Furthermore the lift generated is often enough to allow an Aeroquine to carry an average human. Though this added weight will often reduce the aerial abilities in more common Aeroquine. However when unencumbered by a rider an Aeroquine is able to gain substantial speed and height.   It has been noted that Aeroquine seem to have an above average intelligence and understanding than non anomalous equine. Often this displays itself it what could be considered divergent behaviour in non anomalous horse species. Aeroquine will often spend large amount of time with their rider if they have one. They will also commit acts of mischief, being able to easily release themselves from paddocks and barns in order to be closer to their rider.  

Behaviour and Psychology

Aeroquine display a similar nature to that of a non anomalous equine steed, albeit with the ability of flight. They are however far more intelligent than non anomalous horse species. Most notably Aeroquine enjoy to be near to their rider, especially if they have been assigned to said rider. Though for the most part Aeroquine encountered will have no human to encumber them, those that do are considered to be incredibly defensive of their rider. This is due to the long-standing use of Aeroquine as assigned steeds to chosen hero’s. In times gone by, especially the mythic era, Aeroquine were given to champions by certain well meaning deities to express gratitude or to act as a guardian steed. Though this practice is now exceedingly rare some Aeroquine will instead deem who they believe to be worthy as their rider. It is almost pathological for an Aeroquine to find a worthy rider, with wild instances being considered to be friendly by many.   In many instances Aeroquine will approach humans if discovered in order to investigate. Of course this will most certainly lead to the Aeroquine simply departing after their investigation is complete. On occasion however, if they deem what is essentially a random person as worthy, then they shall offer themselves as steed and guardian. This has allowed Anomalous Security Agencies to easily gain Aeroquine for study and as companion animals.   Aeroquine will on occasion be sighted in herds, though when discovered in our realm this is exceedingly rare. In other realms where Aeroquine are commonplace however then they will most often travel in herds of 6 - 12 instances. There have been instances in the past where a small herd of Aeroquine have unwittingly found themselves within the confines of our realm.  

Habitat & Diet

Aeroquine can be found in almost any biome or environment, they do however prefer areas with large variations in altitude of heavy cover. This allows Aeroquine to either roost in high cliff top caves or beneath the canopy of a woodland. The Aeroquine primarily subsists on grass and low lying plant life much like non anomalous wild horse species.    

Combat & Containment

Aeroquine are incredibly simple to combat and contain, with instances most commonly being lured to the preserve for safeguarding. Many instances have also been recovered by anomalous security agencies to act as working, companion, and mascot animals for various organisations. If instances prove to be aggressive or difficult they can be easily and safely tranquillized. If needs be Aeroquine are also exceedingly easy to terminate, with common firearms being more than effective.   If encountered by field agents it is recommended they simply attempt to calm and keep the Aeroquine in place until removal teams arrive. Almost all Aeroquine encountered in the modern day are sent to the preserve for safegaurding.

Common Aeroquine

- The common and most regularly encountered species of Aeroquine.  

Northern Aeroquine

- Sturdier and bulkier Aeroquine commonly found in the Northern hemisphere.  

Norse Aeroquine

- Near celestial Aeroquine used as steeds by the Valkyrie of Valhalla.  

Black Aeroquine

- Extremely rare Aeroquine that has a coat darker than night and eyes as black as the void of space.    

Myths, Legends and Incidents

Aeroquine have been given to hero’s and champions for millennia, it is no surprise then that a number of myths and legends of the Aeroquine have found their way into common knowledge. In many cases these legends and myths appear in the form of Greek tales from antiquity.  

Greek Myth

In Greek myth Aeroquine are commonly gifted by the pantheon to hero’s and champions that they deem worthy. Hero’s of myth such as Bellaphron and Perseus are both known to have received an Aeroquine as a steed from the gods.
