Traps
Traps are a great way to spice an adventure up. Most players appreciate traps when they are used unexpectedly. This provides players with a sense of urgency, and generally, traps must be addressed immediately. Building a fun and unexpected trap can be time consuming, especially, if the trap takes place over multiple rooms. These traps can be fantastic, but sometimes, it is best to have a simple trap that creates an opportunity for players to problem solve, have a character building moment or challenge players to think outside the box. One way this can be accomplished and reduce prep time, is by developing a random trap table.
Using a Random Trap Table
Roll on this table 3 times (either with 2d6, or 1d12). The first roll provides a trigger that sets the trap. The second roll provides the proximity of the trap from the party. The third roll provides the mechanism of the trap.
