Every year, the streets of Queenshaven come alive with colour and festivity as residents gather to celebrate Queen Eleanor Rani of Fareniaon Queen's Day. Unlike her actual birthday, this day is strategically chosen for maximum convenience so that all inhabitants can partake in the joyous occasion.
History
The tradition of celebrating a monarch's birthday dates back to the founding of the Farenian Empire. Initially known as King's Day when the empire was ruled by men, it transformed into Queen’s Day with Queen Eleanor Rani being crowned its first queen. The celebration began modestly, with the king and his soldiers parading through the city streets. Over time, this simple parade evolved into a grand event featuring numerous smaller festivities.Execution
Queen's Day is celebrated across the entire Farenian Empire, but it is particularly significant in Queenshaven. As dawn breaks, festoons of vibrant colours crisscross above the bustling streets, setting the tone for a day of merriment and unity. Musicians stationed at various locations throughout the city serenade passersby with lively tunes, adding to the festive atmosphere.
The central boulevard, leading down from the palace, is transformed into an open-air banquet hall where tables, chairs, and benches are set up for everyone to enjoy free food. A diverse array of cuisines catered by local vendors ensures there's something for every palate, symbolising the unity and diversity of Farenia.
Throughout the day, children revel in entertainment provided by clowns and storytellers who weave tales of bravery, magic, and adventure. To encourage community spirit, several small competitions are held throughout the city. Notably, a special contest is reserved exclusively for those less fortunate, with the grand prize being a parcel of land and livestock - a gesture that underscores the queen's commitment to social equality.
As tradition dictates, each participant receives a Word of Aziz, reminiscent of fortune cookies imported by merchants. These words, drawn from an ancient religion unfamiliar to most locals, add a touch of mystique and contemplation to the festivities.
The day's highlight features a group of actors performing a play on a small stage set up in the city square. The skit humorously pokes fun at some of the king or queen’s antics over the past year, eliciting laughter and applause from the gathered crowd.
As evening falls, the celebration culminates in a grand fancy dress party held at Queen Eleanor Rani's palace. Costumes are generously lent out to all attendees for free, blurring the lines between rich and poor, allowing everyone to mingle freely without the constraints of social class. Renowned bards and musicians fill the air with familiar melodies that resonate deeply within every heart.
Just after dawn, an awe-inspiring display of fireworks lights up the night sky, courtesy of members from the Gnome Workshop. The pyrotechnic spectacle includes images of flowers, horses, dragons, and even a portrait of Queen Eleanor Rani herself, leaving onlookers in wonder and admiration.
Love the idea of the play sounds fun!
