Tidespring
First full moon of Shehandur- Tidepring is the Grand festival of the moon celebrated in honor of the Goddess of the moon Shehanine. The feast day gives thanks to Shehanine for taming the moon which gives rise and fall to the tides bringing bounty to fishermen, sailors, and coastal communities. Celebrations are held in moonlight most often without artificial light. Games of ring the moon are played in which one person, often a child, is chosen to be the moon. The "moon" runs around a field as if it were unwilling to be tamed by Shehanine. Other participants chase after with ropes attached to rings trying to encircle "the moon". The one who rings the moon is declared the champion of Shehanine and they along with "the Moon" are sat at the head of a large parade that most often ends in a great fish feast where the two are permitted first choice of all foods available. Everyone joins after and the evening is ended with songs to the moon.
