The Vingel twins, Enshem and Enderik, were born into the world and it was immediately apparent that they would be opposites. Enshem was in constant need of attention and actively sought to take from his brother. Enderik rarely cried or fussed in anyway but Enshem was constantly a burden to his parents. As they grew this difference continued until it became abusive. The first proof that either boy was magically inclined came from Enderik who in an attempt to protect his toys from Enshem would cast illusions so his brother would think his toys already broken. Or to direct Enshem to break worthless sticks and stones rather than his beloved childhood keepsakes. As they matured their skills with magic grew, each blossoming into a skilled mage. The whole time Enderik endured his brother’s cruelty. Enshem wished nothing more than to take everything from his brother. And one dark summer day Enshem took from Enderik the greatest of his possessions, the love of his mother and father, when Enshim killed their parents; for no other reason than they loved them both. Enshem left home that day and the brothers did not see each other for years. Enderik continued to grow in strength and reputation as a kindly and heroic wizard. While Enshem’s reputation for cruelty and evil spread across the lands. When Enderik built his mage tower, a great five sided building with a base as large as a city that reached to a point high into the sky; his brother built an exact replica of Enderik’s, except using magic he inverted it so it appeared as a conical wizards hat standing upon its point. When Enderik began to gain renown for his work freeing enslaved peoples, Enshim began “collecting” specimens of many races and species. He took special pride in the ones that were sentient and would even display them in a trophy room for his guests. Enderik searched for years to find a reason his brother hated him. Shamen, and mystics, and priests were consulted to learn any ancient truth that could explain why one brother loved and the other hated. Eventually Through great meditation, Enderik discovered something about his brother, his soul had been corrupted at birth. For the first time in decades Enderik sought out his brother. Seeing Enderik’s tower arrive, Enshim resolved that he had one thing left of his brother’s to take, his life. Enderik walked slowly and deliberately across the no man’s land between the two towers. Enshim sent spell after spell into his brother and his tower with no response. Enderik just walked on. As the tower of Enderik fell he simply walked on. Ice, lightning, fire; obliterating the massive tower but all cast aside or ineffective to the man. Enderik still walked on. Enshim became more and more panicked as his sibling grew closer. Until finally he was there, inches away. It was then that Enderik allowed the illusion to fall revealing his burned, battered and destroyed body. Looking out of one eye that remained in a head barely holding any skin Enderik collapsed into his brother grasping his face in two melted hands. And said: “your soul is broken brother, have mine” and he died, his soul merging with the other man. Enshim shuddered and began to sob. He cried over his dead brother for 3 days and 3 nights without stopping to rest or eat before finally taking the body and burying it within the ruble of the fallen tower. Then Enshim Vengil entered his own tower and it disappeared, never to be seen in the land again.
