Hexling

Tiny creatures with round heads, three smooth and pupiless almond-shaped eyes, four wing structures resembling wrinkled or dead leaves, and four long sharp digits almost like thorns, hexlings seem almost innocent to the unwary traveler. However, when irritated or upon scenting carrion or fresh blood, hexlings’ eyes dilate to a dark color and unhinge their unnaturally large jaws, revealing rows of long needle teeth. They will sometimes play simple tricks upon travelers, although they don’t have any language or understand spoken words. They are more likely to be mischievous in small groups; in large swarms, they can be deadly.
Region: Northlands   Habitat: Temperate forest, river edges   Size: 3-5” long, 4-6” wingspan
