Ceaxtri Sign

Ceaxtri is a sign language that has roots in a proto language developed by the Viksen centuries ago to facilitate communication primarily with other races, as they had a hard time recreating the sounds of standard humanoid vocal chords. They were excellent smiths and engaged in a lot of trade, so travelers and traders often learned at least some in order to better conduct business with them. Over time it spread to be used more frequently by traders in general, eventually morphing over time into the more commonly know Ceaxtri of today. After the withdrawal of the Viksen most people don’t know its original roots, just knowing it as the sign language shared by most of the civilized peoples.   It’s still mostly known and carried on by the merchant classes and groups, although the deaf use it as their primary means of communication. You stand a good chance of running into people who know it in a large city or trading town, but in more distanced or rural areas it’s rather rare.   A fully developed language sharing small similarities to Draconic and Common, Ceaxtri also has borrowed words originally contrived from spoken languages across the continent.
