The Echo Loom

Where dreams are woven, unraveled, and forgotten. A plane between stories, stitched with stardust and silence.
Tucked between waking and elsewhere, the Echo Loom is not a place one enters—it’s a place one brushes against. It slips behind dreams like a second skin, thrumming with memory, possibility, and echoes of creation. Most walk through their lives never touching it. But children? Children walk its edges with bare feet and laughter, weaving impossible beasts and unfinished songs into its fabric.   The Echo Loom is the space between dreaming and waking. A place in constant twilight and shimmering mist, those who find themselves here are dream-touched, sensitive to the different planes of akara. The ones who can see the veils. Unlike the other plane of akara, however, this plane runs alongside it, as if an overlay of the world. Its fantastical creatures and amazing flora and fauna are lost to most. Though it always seems to make itself known when it needs to.   Most think this realm is a myth, nothing more than a child's fairy tale, but those who have seen it as adults know it's a place of both inviting warmth and isolating cold. While it may be inviting to some, there is always the possibility of getting lost in the dream. Never returning to reality.

Ecosystem Cycles

Some believe the Loom pulses in sync with great emotional shifts in Akara—wars, births, prophecies—while others say it weaves its own rhythms, indifferent to time. There are three observed cycles within the Echo Loom. An ebb and flow of lucidity and sense. The Dense Weave: Dreams are vivid, structured, and the realm feels solid and navigable. The Fray: Threads loosen, gravity shifts, logic bends—dreams get chaotic, raw, or nightmarish. The Stillness: Everything slows, even fades—many dreamwalkers describe this as “waking within death.”

Localized Phenomena

"Sound echoes without source, colors shift like emotion, and sometimes, you hear your own voice before you’ve spoken"
Things within the Echo Loom can appear and disappear, shift around without making sense. Lost dreams and memories often end up here being replayed over and over until the dreamer resolves them. Being confronted with such things and not resolving them can lead to losing oneself in the mires of memory. Becoming echoed, nothing but a whisper of your former self.
"You’ll know you’ve stepped into the Echo Loom when your footsteps sound like lullabies you’ve never heard"

Climate

Those who find themselves in the Echo Loom say it's always either dusk or dawn; they can never quite tell if the sun is rising or setting. There is often reported a shimmering mist that can obstruct one's sight, typically it seems to appear when the dream-touched rely too much on their vision.
"The mist, it enveloped me. My vision was gone, and I had to focus on my mind. To see the world around me as it truly was, I needed to stop seeing and feel." -Dreamwalker Marlowe

Fauna & Flora

The flower and fairy cats that often accompany children are said to come from here. Born from a child's wish for companionship. Occasionally leaking out into Akara and have been spotted by researchers. Few other creatures have been spotted outside of the Echo Loom, but researchers still search for evidence of this shifting plane and its creatures. There are theories of different types of creatures; Predatory entities that feed on memory and others that tend to dreams like gardens, waiting for them to bloom into something more.
