Magic District
The Magic District is a district in Qarah's Dream. Wizard schools, bard colleges, and all other manners of buildings specifically tailored to the needs of magic users can be found in this district. While the most prestigious wizard school is actually in Virtue, the ones in Qarah's Dream allow one to remain politically neutral. This district is known as being particularly volatile and dangerous, because magical experiments have the unfortunate tendency to either explode or, should they involve live subjects, escape. Most people avoid it unless they have business there.
Locations
- Professor Dreamroot's School for the Magically Gifted: This boarding school welcomes youths that awakened their magical power through natural means, such as sorcerers. Often, such awakenings are explosive in nature, and thus many parents, unable to deal with the particular needs of their children, do their best to get their children accepted into this prestigious establishment. It is the source of most of the district's magical mishaps.
- The Dreamers' Pledge: This amalgamation of bard colleges teaches their students to spread good cheer throughout the world, turning them into master performers and expert raconteurs. This school and the Truthseeker College have been bitter rivals for as long as anyone can remember.
- Truthseeker College: This alliance of bard colleges makes their students understand that they are responsible for keeping Aj'kar lore and history alive, and teaches them the role of bards is to be observers and chroniclers of legends. This school and the Dreamers' Pledge have been rivals for as long as anyone can remember.
- Goodwill Academy: All schools of conventional magic are accepted within this school, and its students are taught to use their power for the good of the community. This school has done much to lessen the ill reputation of necromancy all across Aj'kar.
- Alver's Institute for Magical Research: Unlike the Goodwill Academy and Storm's Eye, this school is based on the study of all unconventional forms of magic, such as dunamancy or artifice. It is focused on research and development; thus, it makes no effort to influence its students' use of such magic. The second most common source of magical accidents in the district.
- Storm's Eye: While all schools of conventional magic are also accepted within this school, they are much more pragmatic than the Goodwill Academy, and teach that magic must be used like any specialised tool; to reach one's goal, no matter what it takes.
