Imperial Gods

The Empire of the Southern Sun has two sets of gods. The Gods of Foundation were the ancestral gods of the genasi, adopted after the break from the Elemental Princes. The Imperial Gods are the patrons of the Imperial Houses, and represent a holdover from the ancient, animist worship of the Empire's forerunners.   Each of the noble houses of the Empire of the Southern Sun has its own tutelary deity. When a new house is formed, its founder seeks out a new god, takes on the god's name and makes them their patron. While for the most part these gods are only worshipped within the house, the patrons of the five Imperial Houses and of House Golean have national cults.

The Cult of Foundation

In the Empire, the Gods of Foundation are worshipped in slightly different aspects to those favoured in the north. The Imperial Church encompasses both their Cult and that of the Imperial Gods, and overseas the local religious houses.
  • The Imperator is the name given to the Archon as patron of Empire. They are also the god of constancy and all that resists the flow of time, the god of custodianship and conservation, the god of authority and order.
  • The Sage is the god of fire, intellect and reason, god of passion and war, god of the will.
  • The Builder is the god of water and transformation, god of ceativity and craft, god of diplomacy, god of stories.
  • The Farmer is the god of earth, agriculture and the heart, god of stability, contracts and agreements, god of growth.
  • The Traveler is the god of air, god of movement and travel, god of discovery and deception, trickster, questioner and disruptor.
  • The Healer is the god of the sun and the day, god of life and birth, god of sickness and of health, patron of judges and doctors.
  • The Dreamer is the god of the moon and the night, god of dreams and of death, of rest and restlessness, god of mental health.

The Imperial Cult

The six Imperial Gods are the primary culture gods of the Empire. Once simple household patrons, the ascent of their households into the ruling houses of the Empire led them to prominence.
  • Massom - God of the plains, the sky, storms, sea and empire. The patron of House Jarida is also the god of imperial authority and the patron of the naval battalions.
  • Nathum - God of the mountains, darkness, craft and secrets. The patron of House Daarium and god of the cloud forests is also the patron of miners and adventurers.
  • Celsine - God of the coasts, the south wind, fire and trade. House Ooliat's patron is also favoured by marine and coastguard forces, traders and travellers.
  • Prikit - God of the moon, the west wind, water and mists; god of the rivers. The patron of House Tirika is the most popular of the Imperial gods among grung dynasties, and is deemed to govern the internal waterways of the Empire.
  • Bayaht - God of the sun, the east wind, salt and battle. The patron of House Urog is the war god of the empire, but also favoured among fisherfolk and healers.
  • Aybaro - God of the earth, the north wind, order and justice. The patron of House Golean is also the god of the natural and social order, favoured among magistrates and lawmakers.
