Week 1: Pledging

 

The Pledge:

 
  Hello and welcome! During the month of December, I pledge to write 15,000 words of worldbuilding for Ai Kalin,the setting of a story that I am currently writing. This is an average of 500 words per day, which will take roughly 4-7 hours per week.
 
 

The Focus:

 
  The civilization on the archipelago of Ai Kalin is deep into its industrial age, but it lives on the ruins of an ancient, fallen, magical civilization. As is wont to happen in fantasy settings, the magic is now reawakening. There is an inherent conflict in this, between the past of magic and mystery and fantasy, and the future of technology and progress and opportunity. My focus for the upcoming month of worldbuilding will be to explore this conflict through the following specific questions:
  What brought the magic back? I have a clear picture of why the civilization fell and the magic left in the first place. I am currently trying to brainstorm possibilities for why the magic returns when it does.
  How has the ancient civilization been mythologized? Ruins of the ancient civilization scatter the landscape of Ai Kalin. There is a religious sect that worships one of the fallen queens of the ancient empire. Other historical events from the ancient empire (currently named Abraria although I would like to change this) have doubtlessly entered the modern mythos of Ai Kalin, and I will expand on some of the ways in which it has.
  What has happened since the fall on Ai Kalin? In the decades preceeding the story's beginning, Ai Kalin has just been unified after a war. I want to explore the major historical events on the archipelago since the fall of the empire, leading up to the unifcation war?
  There are also many ideas I already have of the world which are not in writing on World Anvil. Some of the articles to be made are
 

• Why Abraria  fell
• The political and economic structure of modern Ai Kalin
• The mechanics of the magic system (some of which exists in Kalinese Magic: A Primer)
• Character articles

I also would like to work out some plot arcs for some of my less developed characters, but there is enough on my plate with just the above!
 
 

Week 2: Prepare for new readers

 

Homepage Review:

  As of (2024/11/15) the Ai Kalin homepage contains only a tagline. I need to check other worlds to see how the homepage is handled.
 

World Primer:

  As of right now (2024/11/15) this does not exist. I need to write one.
 

Follow Button:

  If all has gone well, there is a follow button on the sidebar of this page! I will add one to the homepage as well.
 

CSS:

  Looking it over now, it seems as though the background for my pages has a very close color to the bolded text. I need to fix this.
