Winter Solstice
The shortest day of the year also marks the start of the new year. A common way of celebrating is to wait until nighttime and gather with friends or family for a feast. People trade stories from the past year and declare their hopes for the new one. This is usually done around a campfire or with candles. When done with candles, each person has one, and after each person has declared their hope for the new year, they blow out their candle.
