The Daarakes is a race semi-common in Ages Die, they call themselves Daarak or Daarakes depending on the reign they come from. The word Darrak and Daarakes is a shortened version of an ancient dwarven word Darrzerc aKezz which means Strong built. Throughout the second and third age the dwarves had enormous empires spanning from the great planes in the north to the Bahameth mountains in the south as well as thought the Westworld-Mountains. Today the dwarves have shrunken to a minority in the world, with only pockets of their culture preserved around the world.

History

The Rise & Fall of the Dwarak

The Daarak has historically been a strong and powerful people and has hosted many of the strongest empires in history. After the Age of elves had passed (also called the first age), the Daarak rose to power with newfound technology and they did so with little resistance. Although the Daarak is far from the strong civilization building people they once were. The Daarak constructed the art of RuneScripting around the middle of the second age. Runescription enabled them to construct constructs that use a programmable magical crystal as their core. It was after the discovery of this technology that their empires started sprouting into existence. They used these constructs first for mining and moving of great amount of resources faster, and quickly realized their potential in warfare. The Daarak waged war on nearly every major power in the world and overwhelmed most foes fast. At this point in time, the end of the second age was close and the human Empire of Dema was at its peak. The Daarak and Dema waged frequent wars but none was able to overpower the other the next few hundred years. Then the fall of Dema occurred but not in the way the Daarak had expected.   The realm of men had challenged the gods, or the gods had seen it as such. The second war on hell ensued as creatures that can only be called demons surged into the material realms. The Daarak and the realms of men brokered peace in the face of a common enemy and waged war against the forces of the Immaterium over a period of three years. The dwarven construct was a key force to withstand the onslaught that was ensuing. The war ended when the god known as Reng came into the material realm and obliterated the entire empire of Dema leaving behind what is known as the eye of Dema today. Every civilization of men and elves was destroyed in this event and most of the dwarven holds were hit severely hard and the third age started. This was the main factor causing the end of the Dwarven age.   A few years later the first of the dwarven constructs went corrupt, due to an unforeseen error in the cores of the constructs. This error was causing them to go corrupt after 600-1200 years of service. When the constructs went corrupt they started to have a change in their behavior. A mining unit would go about destroying buildings, mine in random directions as well as recognize every living being as a threat. On the other side, combat constructs seemed to view every organic being as an enemy, subsequently causing them attack on sight. At this time the dwarven civilization relied heavily on constructs in daily life, from mining to law enforcement. Elves and men took advantage of this and destroyed most of the remaining cities and some empires and kingdoms tried to assimilate the Daarak. Their most used and strongest asset had turned against them while they already had been severely weakened after the event fall of Dema, spelled the end of the dwarven age. The last Dwarven empire of old fell in E3 2251.

Today's Dwarven civilization

At the present time you will find Daarak communities everywhere in the world. Mostly in human towns where they have been accepted as a part of normal human civilization. A dwarf is often found as a smith or a construction worker in towns and In cities throughout the world. The biggest concentration of dwarfs today is around the city of Parris in the Kingdom of Emrad They have a few organizations and towns consisting mostly of Daarak here.

Kazlen-kar

There is only one known Dwarven kingdom standing today. Kazlen-kar is a dwarven city-state found in the Gross Mountains near Grossfell. The dwarven civilization has stayed hidden from the world since the third age and has survived because of its isolation and due to their early removal of constructs. They have later figured out that they can decommission the constructs well before they start to become corrupt. Thus, the citizens of Kazlen-kar had a way to prevent more constructs from going corrupt.

Cool. In my fantasy universe, humans are the old race, dwarves are the established power, and elves are the rising power.

Pretty cool xd Here humans have always been up and down, elves were a power very early on but were almost extinct for a very long time.

Great article! I especially adore the information under their history and the way you described it. Despite still being a work in progress, i like the amount of details and effort you put into this comment. You could use links to some of the things mentioned here like runescription or add some details about it in the sidebar. I also got reminded of the warhammer fantasy dwarves from this so i am guessing its where your inspiration came from. Either ways, congratulations and keep up the good work!

Glad you like it!! Your inspiration guess in right on the money! yes not quite done, and I'm going to write separate articles on runescripting and other details that aren't built out here, it will just take time :)
