Saturnyne Ordo

== Saturnyne Ordo ==

  by Legionnaire270   Name: Saturnyne Ordo   Alternate names: ???   Brief Summary of the faction:   During the Age of Strife, the rings and the moons served as the home of an advanced independent polity known as the Saturnyne Ordo, with its military arm being known as the Saturnine Fleet. After this period, the miniature empire based at Saturn encountered the fledgling Imperium of Man, which they saw as a brother empire. A treaty was signed with the Emperor that merged the two during the years leading to the Great Crusade. However, portions of the Saturn system were occupied by a rival faction, the so-called “Ringers”, who fought against and were conquered by the Imperium.Moreover, the Moons of the planet became occupied by cruel Xenos overlords which enslaved their human inhabitants. These moons would not be liberated until the planet fell to the Emperor during the Great Crusade.   Leader(S): ???   Titles: ???

Territories:

  Capital(s): Unkown       As of the 29th millennium, Saturn's rings have thinned due to industrial exploitation.   A confederation of independent hubs and flying atmospheric cities with a representative democracy. De facto it is an autocratic and centralized democracy centered on Titan. This picture only applies to moons, orbit and the upper atmosphere. Much deeper inside the atmosphere there is another area known as the Veil. Beneath the veil there are a number of isolationist cultures, distant descendants of Dark Age of technology , and an unknown number of AI and other DAoT horrors.   Orbital space is teeming with hubs, forts, shipyards and mining complexes.

Diplomacy and Relationship

  Allies: Imperium of Man   Enemies: The Ringers, The Jovian Conspiracy, the Blood Host,    Mercury: The planet as a whole acts as a trading partner. Saturn supplies weapons, electronics, food and luxury goods in exchange for rare minerals and energy resources gathered through solar arrays. Since their spheres of interest don't really overlap due to the vast distances involved, this has a positive effect on their relationship. As a result, Mercury is generally sympathetic to Saturn's rule.   Terra: The current state of Terra can be described in one expressive phrase: "B̵͐͝L̴̯͂Ő̷͗O̴̊̕D̸̊͝Y̶̛͛ ̴̅́B̶̿͝É̸̖D̷̪̍L̵̑̚Ă̸̊M̴͛́". The fall of the planetary government, global catastrophes and devastating conflicts that began in the 27th millennium make any long-term relationship impossible. The only people interested in Terra are freelancers, mercenaries and corporations who see the war-torn world as a place to make a fortune if the risks are worth it. For this reason, Saturn sends expeditions on a scale comparable to Mars, hoping to find artefacts from bygone eras. The amazing thing is that even on a world so cursed to the core, there is some trade. What they manage to get on Terra ends up in the chambers of Saturn's most influential people, for fortunes that ordinary citizens couldn't even dream of. ( Details to come in a separate post )   Luna: Against the backdrop of a mangled Terra, its satellite Luna shines like a bright diamond. The Selenar Order, which owns the “diamond”, has been working with Saturn since before the Age of Discord. Perhaps that's why they spoil the Saturnian elite and their scientists with the latest findings in genetic engineering and biomodification. Since Saturn doesn't want to share its citizens, it gives Luna slaves bought on Venus. In addition to the exchange of upright cattle for the achievements of transhumanism, Saturn supplies minerals, samples of flora and fauna from the surviving biosphere planets of the solar system and its neighbours, and samples of modern weapons produced in its own factories. And although Luna has its own defence system, it does not refuse Saturn's help in repulsing the attacks of meddlesome techno-barbarians and xenos.   Mars: The confrontation between Mars and Saturn due to military parity is limited to skirmishes in the main asteroid belt region. Judging by the accounts of fugitive techno-priests and techno-renegades, the technological potential of Mars is orders of magnitude greater than that of Saturn, but it is not fully exploited because their religious practices are severely restricted. They regard Saturnians as sinners who have wronged the Omnissiah but are worthy of salvation. Civil unrest also facilitates the infiltration of agents into their ranks to weaken the position of the Martians. Intelligence indicates that the Martian technocracy does not yet threaten the position of the Saturnian Dominion, but this may change in the distant future. Sol Asteroid Belt: Essentially a resource appendage for the Dominion, for which it feuds with Mars and its vassals, the Pirates and Xenos. The remaining independent habitats are effectively under Dominion influence in exchange for resources and military aid.

Lore

  “The Polities of Saturn had formed during the Age of Strife; they were a disparate league of independent domains and kingdoms formed from scores of asteroid-enclaves, orbital arcologies and lunar colonies around the gas giant which gave them their name. Over time they had established a common technologically advanced culture, and although inter-state conflict, competition and vendetta was rife among them, spurred on by survival, they quickly banded together in the face of outside threat, be it the baleful influence of Mars, or the horrific privations of xenos and mutant raiders come to plunder the wealth and resources they had so long sought.”   Saturnyne Ordo   The Saturnyne Ordo was a Human regime during the Age of Strife.[1]   The ordo came to dominate Saturn and operated a highly disciplined military arm known as the Saturnine Fleet which was famed for its armored void hoplites. During the early Great Crusade they signed a treaty with the Emperor to join the Imperium. The Saturnyne Ordo continued to have an influence on the Imperium in the form of the Solar Auxilia, which were largely based on the Ordo's Hoplites.[1] The Ordo, now part of the Imperium, also continued to provide skilled naval officers to the Crusade.[2]   Sources   1: The Horus Heresy Book Four - Conquest, pg. 80   2: Battle for the Abyss (Novel), Chapter 4       Saturn is a gas giant in the Sol System located within the Segmentum Solar. It is noteworthy for housing the headquarters of the Ordo Malleus of the Inquisition.     History   During the Age of Strife, the rings and the moons served as the home of an advanced independent polity known as the Saturnyne Ordo[7], with its military arm being known as the Saturnine Fleet. After this period, the miniature empire based at Saturn encountered the fledgling Imperium of Man, which they saw as a brother empire. A treaty was signed with the Emperor that merged the two during the years leading to the Great Crusade.[4] However, portions of the Saturn system were occupied by a rival faction, the so-called Ringers, who fought against and were conquered by the Imperium.[5] Moreover, the Moons of the planet became occupied by cruel Xenos overlords which enslaved their human inhabitants. These moons would not be liberated until the planet fell to the Emperor during the Great Crusade.[6]   During the Horus Heresy period Saturn and its moons were classified as a quarantine zone under the exclusive control of Malcador and his agents. Any unregistered ship approaching Saturn was destroyed. These actions were all all part of Malcador's contingency plans for the fight against Chaos, and shortly before the Siege of Terra Saturn's moon of Titan was teleported into the Webway with Eldar technology in order to safeguard it.[10] During the subsequent Solar War, Saturn was ravaged by the Night Lords who sent ships from Uranus full of dead civilians into its moons and habitation stations in order to sow terror and confusion.[11]   By M32, Saturn had become home to the secretive Ordo Malleus and Grey Knights. The world and its moons were restricted and only a select few were allowed anywhere near its orbit. Unlike the other worlds of the Sol System, it had no orbital colonies and was not heavily developed. Any unidentified vessel nearing Saturn is promptly destroyed by its sophisticated orbital defenses.[8]
