Sun cultists? Small colony world fought over by multiple factions for access to the “solar mills” (massive arrays of solar panels) and other solar resources because of its close proximity to the sun.
The local populace might be willing to join the imperium for defence against raiders
Inspired by cultures of extreme climes, Inuit's and desert dwellers.
The live in either cities on the poles or nomads that travel staying in the twilight while scavaging for resources to uses and sell.
Summary
“Mercury is a small, Dead World and Mining World that orbits very close to Sol. Despite its unforgiving conditions, shoal facilities operate in Mercury's orbit.”A brief History Summary:
The settlement of Mercury dates back all the way to the early millinians of the Age of Terra when humanity began to colonies the inner solar system. Unlike other world, Mercury was colonized so to extract its natural resources and construct simple solar panel satellites that would provide abundant energy to the inner planets. At some point the during the Age of Terra, easier source of power production were engineered thus making the Mercury solar panel satellites redundant and later obsolete. Some of the original worker force decided to stay on Mercury and would develop into an largely independent society through the ages. At the end of the Dark Age of Technology Mercury was got up in the varies wider conflicts of the time. By the Age of Strife and the Sol System being cut of from the wider galaxy do to Warp Storms, Mercury was largely a ruined world, were its inhabitant struggle to survive.Landscape
How is the planet layed out: Mercury's surface is overall similar in appearance to that of the Ancient Luna, with extensive mare-like plains and heavily cratered terrains similar to the lunar highlands and made locally by accumulations of pyroclastic deposits.Countries and society
What are the important nations: the Hive City States of the Northern Pole and Southern Pole and the ruined city of Cytheron How are the countries laid out?: One at the Norther Pole and one On the Southern PoleNatural Resources
Mercury was once a great mineral rich world but over the tens of thousands of years of Human colonization and resource extraction is a mire hollow shell of what it once was. Much of Mercury's natural wealth was turned into the great solar panel orbiting around the sun and through out the inner system. With cheaper power alternative, these great satellites are now themselves great deposites of valuable tech and rare minerals which the people of Mercury salvage to trade and rebuild there own settlements.Seasons
One Mercury solar day (one full day-night cycle) equals 176 Earth days – just over two years on Mercury. Mercury's axis of rotation is tilted just 2 degrees with respect to the plane of its orbit around the Sun. That means it spins nearly perfectly upright and so does not experience seasons as many other planets do.Climate
Mercury is the closest planet to the Sun. Its climate varies considerably throughout its year because it moves in a highly elliptical path. This means that at times it is much closer to the Sun than at other times. It does not have any atmosphere and has no protection from the Sun. During the day it gets really hot and during the night it gets really cold. Mercury has no tilt, so its seasons are caused by its highly elliptical path around the Sun.Weather
