Humans

++Homo-Sapiens++

  Canonical Lore   https://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Human   https://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Abhuman   Brief Overview   Originally little more then tree-beasts, humans originated from the planet Terra and while one with their eco-system had no greater role defined for them by the Old Ones, an ancient and powerful race that ruled the Galaxy in its infancy. However following the destruction of the Old Ones in the War in Heaven, humans went on to develop in unforeseen and uncontrolled ways as raw uncontrolled evolution took hold. Eventually humans went on to colonize the galaxy during the Dark Age of Technology. Almost nothing is known about human civilisation in this time, having been lost in the chaos of the Age of Strife. Most of Humanity's shattered colonies were reunified by the Emperor during the Great Crusade, becoming the early Imperium.

Stable Human subspecies

  By the end of the Age of Strife, Humanity (Homo-Sapiens) through artificial means or in rare case forced evolutional adaption, has gone from a single biologically unified species to have an unknown amount of separate racial groups. These groups varied in genetics and were sometime flat out total mutation.    The most stable of the racial groups are categorised as "Sub-Species" of Humanity.   During the course of humanities expansion and rule of the galaxy, the Imperium of Man recognized 73 of the subspecies.    List of Imperial Recognized Subspecies:   Squats - Squats (Homo Sapiens Rotundus) are short, stocky, tough and long-lived abhumans., They constitute the most widespread and important of the abhuman races.   Ogryn - Ogryns (Homo Sapiens Gigantus) are the largest and most physically powerful type of abhuman. They make ideal warriors and are often recruited into Imperial Guard regiments, and used as close assault shock troops.   Tohruk - The Tohruk are the debased and brutal cousins of the Ogryns.   Ratlings - Ratlings are the smallest type of abhuman, their ancestors having become stunted by thousands of years of inbreeding on worlds with naturally soporific climates and abundant harvests.   Longshanks – The Longshanks, also known as Homo Sapien Elongatus, Longshanks reside on worlds with low levels of gravity. In appearance, the Longshanks are bald with very pronounced eyes and have unnaturally long legs, when compared with baseline humans.   Felinoids – The Felinids, also known as Homo Sapien Hirsutus, They are known for their cool in the face of the most brutal opposition, and claws the length of a forearm - and are some of the most efficient killers in a imperial army. Kroot say they are nearly indistinguishable from other humans.   Navigators – Navigators (Homo navigo) are responsible for guiding Imperial ships through the Warp. They are both a sub-species of humanity as well an organisation (known as the Navis Nobilite), comprised of the various Navigator Families.   Nightsiders - Nightsiders (Homo Sapiens Tenebris), Having evolved on worlds or parts of planets shrouded in darkness, Nightsiders have a variety of particular attributes including echolocation, tapetal reflexes which allow them to see almost in total darkness, chemiluminescence which enable them to "glow", and heightened olfactory and auditory senses. As a result, they are sometimes used in Imperial Guard Regiments for use during underground or night operations. However their physical attributes (including oversized eyes to no eyes at all, colourless or transparent skin, luminous appendages, etc.) have made them reviled and mistrusted by the very people they seek to serve.   Subs – Subs (Homo Sapiens Deformum),   Palegers – The Pelagers, also known as Homo Sapien Oceanus, Often hailing from worlds which are entirely underwater, Pelagers have the ability to breathe almost any liquid, and live under pressures which would crush any standard human, as well as standard pressures. They are possessed of iron-hard muscle, gills, scales, and are not dissimilar to an ogryn in size.   Stiltlimbs - unknown   Thugrock Goliath - unknown   Thrix - They possess famously lethal plumage.   Lazul - Lazul are an abhuman strain hailing from the world of Garganus Prime. They are known for their distinctive blue skin.   Drepanes - Drepanes are an abhuman strain hailing from the world of Azetium IV. They are known to have ‘sickle-like’ heads.   Gaints - smarter and taller than Ogryn   Blemmyae - headless men, wearing their face on their chest -   Panotii - long-eared persons   Gnomes – leaning then Rattlings   Big Noses – minecraft villager   Humanoid Orcs – grey skinned Uruk-hai   Merfolk - one leg   Water Breathers - no tails, just gills   Cyclops -   Super Hairy men -   Humans with hands for feet   Beastman  - Beastmen (Homo sapiens variatus) are the most bestial and inhuman type of Abhumans.   Anthropomorph – half man half beast   Dogmen   Reptilians   Monkey men   Bird men?   Pigmen

Unrecognized Abhuman races

  The Imperium of man will not recognize certan subspecies for a variety of reasons but most often is the groups unwillingness to join the imperium and or there grotesk and horrific nature.     Ghouls – sickly human cannibals   Vampires   Crones? Hags?
