OZ-tralla cantons

the follow are notes on the Region of Australia by ThiccoMode from Discord   the northwest has a lot of mining autocrats who are rich but not very powerful   most of australia's power is concentrated on the giant slum of Alice Springs   whose oligarchs are powerful but not very wealthy, the natural enemy of the mining autocrats to the northwest   well in my timeline they were just super dense and had lots of vertical elements to them because, of course they did lol   but also they had a massive amount of living space physically in the ground   not the traditional spires of 40k   human waste is composted, fungi make up a great deal of the local diet   Q: Any rats or roach soup?   A: sure why not, humans feed off of whatever extremophiles can get by in the engineered nature-less wasteland that is the slums of Alice Springs   surrounded by desert on all sides there's nowhere better to go   sometimes "developers" have even physically paved over dense slums to clean regions of typical slum activity   think: cyberpunk detroit   I just made it the dominant power of australia because darwin and perth recently nuked each other   because that adds military chaos and it introduces the Alice Springs government to three times the amount of factions   such as rogue military leaders who refuse to recognise alice springs's government   climate-wise it's mostly desert with some salt marshes   but there's a bit of rain where it's possible   society-wise it's basically just feudal   the northwest of the "continent" is dominated by mining autocrats   and the southeast is a seperate "country" with a ton of elite families and whatnot   pledging allegience to each other and to foreign countries   it's a bit like the HRE       Betel-nut palm tree   And for grimdark its psychoactive but have extreme nasty health effect after       southeastern Australia is like the HRE in the sense that there's just a bunch of elite families and socially it's basically feudal   but the rest of Australia and new Zealand aren't like the HRE   well I did something for new zealand, and then I stopped liking it and wanted to change it   but Australia for the most part is one nation   though they have a lot of autonomies    

Unique cantons

  "Animal Cults" and "The Flesh" and "The Intellectuals"     The animal cults The animal cults were a group of post-apocalyptic furries living near the radioactive wasteland of what was once brisbane   they reject the feudalism that dominates the rest of the world, they believe that humans are barely different from animals, and they have some crazy conspiracies such as "Animals once roamed the world freely" or "the earth used to be covered in a soft green blanket that animals fed on"     "The Flesh" "The Flesh" is a single organism composed of many humans, it's a tumor in a giant salty basin, it's a field of living human flesh with pillars of human organs and muscle tissue, including human brains   it's basically torture for aforementioned human brains, but the government lets it stick around because many people from the Alice Springs slums venture out to collect its assorted secretions, many of which have positive affects ranging from psychedelic to medicinal   the flesh is in central australia, the animal cults are in the east     "The Intellectuals" "The Intellectuals" are in the west, they reside in a massive compound surrounded by impassable salt marshes, they claim to know how the flesh was created, and they're basically a cult   they're on the outskirts of the Perth slums, and they were a constant headache for the Perth government   because the Perth government wanted loyalty, but their citizens wanted to follow the Intellectuals   so when Perth's government was destroyed, and Alice Springs took over   it was, but the slums were so vast that only the city centre was destroyed   so now they're a headache for the government of Alice Springs
