World Ember Prep 2025

World Ember is about to start once again, and just like back in school, I'm trying to write my pledge and the homework 5 minutes before the bell rings. I can't say I'm not excited, especially since I've been slacking on my writing, and my fingers start to itch to create again. Especially since, for now, I'll have more free time than I had during the Summer Camp a few months ago.

Pledge

This year, I'm planning to finally write some of the articles I've either teased (this world's articles about Doubled Witch) or didn't finish in the past (The Call of Tree's bestiary), wanted to write for some of the challenges that I either missed or didn't have time to join in, and invite everyone to my new world, Ragged Odyssey. The ten thousand words are the minimum, and if I manage to reach one of the higher word goals, I'd be quite happy, but I'm not shooting for any other specific number.

Goals:

  • At least 10k words
  • Introduce Ragged Odyssey
  • Create the visual side of Ragged Odyssey if I don't manage to do it before WE starts. That means CSS and main images for the world
  • Finish Bestiary of the Pit
  • Have fun and try to participate in the community side of things more

WE Bingo

Most of these will relate to the new world, Ragged Odyssey, unless specified otherwise.
Review or collect your
world inspirations
I've noticed that most of my worlds tend to follow quite a similar theme. Ragged Odyssey is a way for me to try something new and do it from a little different perspective. Instead of describing various different elements and parts of the world, this one will follow perspective of the main character, revealing only the things they know or experience during their journey. The main articles will be mostly story-based, too.   When it comes to main inspirations, I'd say the first ones that come to my mind would be: Mad God, Girls' Last Tour, BLAME!, Kino's Journey and Made in Abyss.

Tidy up your writing space
Physical one is pretty clean, digital one fights back, so 50% done
Define your scope for WE
Catching up on things I wanted to write about and introducing new world. It would be good to reach the point where main character leaves the first location and sets out for their journey and to explain the most basic concepts of that world.

Finish all your
unfinished articles
Other than the ones I want to write about during WE, I tend to finish my articles as I write them, so this one's pretty much a free space.
Read a book
Series of Unfortunate Events - The Ersatz Elevator by Lemony Snicket. When I was younger, I always wanted to read this series, and I am finally slowly going through them. I like how the narrator is part of the world and many repeating jokes that show up in the series. While singular stories tend to be simple and some of them are quite predictable, it is nice to get thrown a curveball evrey so often and the main mystery of the story and absurd settings of each book make me want to read more.
FREE SPACE
I'll gladly take it.

Plan your worldbuilding
playlist
It's funny cause for whatever reason, I decided to do that when I first came up with the new world, just as an experiment, cause I've never done that before. So, here it is, far from finished, something I might listen to when I write, but I'll probably stick to random music and videos as always. This one follows the theme of traveling through unknown and abstract lands. Most of the tracks don't have lyrics, but the few that do just feel like they suit the world. The link to the playlist is at the bottom of the article.
Plan your writing
schedule
I can't ever stick to one, so I can't do that, but unless something changes, you can expect me trying to start to write at 6 pm and most likely actually writing between 12 am and 3 am.
What are the people
in your world like?
Golems in Ragged Odyssey are all weirdos. Some of them are hyper-focused on their tasks, interests, and obsessions, while others wander without a goal, either trying to find it or just existing. The main character of the story will try to find their place in world, witness its beauty, and discover some of its secrets.

Join the community
Over the years, it feels like it is harder for me to be part of the community when outside of the main challenges, and that I have even stopped searching out new worlds to read about, and that I give less feedback. I'm coming back for the challenge again, and I dusted off the button for WA's Discord server, coming back to my chapter, too. I promise to try to interact more.
Go for a walk
Done daily thanks to my doggos.
What adjectives describe
your world?
  • Ragged Odyssey: Goalless, beauty in order, beauty in chaos, curious, stagnant
  • The Call of The Tree: Layered :P, interconnected, mysterious
  • Age of Gray: Turbulent, disturbed, slowly healing, ever-changing
  • The Curtain Has Fallen: Surviving, beyond-understanding, uncanny, warped

Summary (as of now):

Score: 17/25 (68%)
Triple Bingo!
