Transgalactic Gate

As seen in
That's no constellation...   Whatever means these incredible structures were created much less how they function is a secret jealously guarded by Thanged's Goddess of the Forge, Eyurodin, Lady of Flames. Centuries ago she turned her attention beyond and divined the location of the Oldworld. Channeling all her divine might and knowledge, she created the first of a pair of gateways capable of bridging the Vault of Stars. Upon learning their ancestral world faced certain peril from a terrible foe, Thangiens marshalled the greatest war-host ever seen led by Sky-King Memner. For all their valor, the battle went poorly with Memner slain and Oldworlders and Thangiens suffering mounting losses. In order to protect Thanged from this Dread Enemy, the Queens waited until the war-host safely escaped before shattering the Gate above the Oldworld. The remaining Gate above Thanged remained dormant for many centuries...until recently.

Power Generation

The amount of power required to link two points in High Space much less maintain that connection is orders of magnitude beyond comprehension, but because Eyurodin is a god, none dare question her. The anchor band surrounding the vortex is theorized to house a series of power generators, but the precise source and method used remains a mystery.

Propulsion

The Gates maintain geosynchronous orbit above a designated planet. The four orbital spires adorning the anchor band seem to serve more than just a mere decorative function.

Armor and defense

Even though the inner workings are a closely-guarded secret, the anchor band is known to be crafted of dererium. It is estimated several thousand tons were used in construction, but all the miners on Thanged working from cradle to grave since Deres' time could not possibly have mined that much solid dererium...   Dererium is not completely indestructible as the Thanged-Banguk gates were completely destroyed after the Burning of Banguk. Eyurodin briefly reformed the Gates once more during Cataclysm War Ch. 9 "Savage Nature" in order to buy Rowen and Anubis enough time to retrieve the Last Bangukian, Almethea. Myr Chedryn managed to destroy the Banguk-side Gate with sustained fire from phergon batteries. Rowen, Anubis, and Almethea managed to escape safely, and the Thanged-side gate quickly disintegrated.

Additional & auxiliary systems

The Gates appear to be completely autonomous and do not require periodic maintenance or go offline regularly. According to Captain Caroline Wendell, the "mega-gate" form has only ever been used twice in history: during the Totalitary Invasion, and during the Battle of Banguk.   Only two corresponding Gates are known to currently exist: one located above Bainshaebo on Thanged, and one above Japan on the Oldworld. Eyurodin has demonstrated she has the ability to create new Gates at will wherever she chooses, regardless the distance. A network of such Gates could unlock access to High Space for both Thangiens and Oldworlders, ushering in a new age of interplanetary exploration and travel, but Eyurodin is an aloof god, and keeps her secrets close...

They exercised incredible powers in aid and defense of the people, and since then Thangiens have revered them as gods.
