Raaezen the Wanderer (Ray-zen)

The most important man rarely ever spoken of...   No one knows precisely what motivated this unassuming Freelander to come to Bainshaebo with his precious burden much less undertake such an incredible project to begin with without any promise of compensation. He came and left so quickly he gave no opportunity to ask and was never seen again. So few city-folk knew of his journey they wouldn't possibly recognize him, but stories did trickle in from time to time in following cycles of freelanding youths crossing paths with an elderly man who would offer useful advice and warnings of various hazards. These are anecdotal at best, and the only trace of his existence remains in his lovingly preserved writings. Roth only knows where he ventured off to, and if asked, she either is unwilling or not inclined to share. Academics are so quick to attribute virtually everything under the Twin Suns to Deres' ingenuity, but Deres adamantly insisted credit for such a monumental donation to knowledge belonged solely to Raaezen, so much so he ordered the newly completed Archive be named after him.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Raaezen was described as a rather stringy fellow with significant stubble and walked bow-legged, likely middle-aged by Thangien standards. As heavy as his pack was and as many hides it contained, he had to have at least some skill and physical prowess hunting kirya cattle and treating their hides.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

According to testimony from staff present that day, Raaezen trudged his way into the city all the way to the newly-completed academic complex in the northwest quadrant of the city before depositing his burden and leaving as quickly as he came, only giving his name to those who asked. When Deres returned from his tour and was told what happened and shown the collected writings, he wished dearly to meet Raaezen, but he had long since returned to the Plains. Deres is often referred to as the first scribe, but as long as he lived afterward he staunchly maintained that Raaezen deserved the greatest credit for pioneering the craft and igniting the fires of academic progress.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

"Who's to say what stirred Raaezen to do what he did? If he put down his writings with such care, why not stay and ensure they are handled and studied properly? Did the city disgust him? Or did he suffer from some unspecified ailment and lived on borrowed time? Did his academic exertions shorten his life somehow and he wished dearly to preserve his efforts? So few even to this day knew Raaezen existed and even at the time Deres' contemporaries tried to give him all the credit but Deres staunchly refused, insisting the honor belonged solely to Raaezen. Perhaps its because it is easier for academics to ascribe everything to Deres than a mere Freelander. Or perhaps, Raaezen prefered things this way?"

Representation & Legacy

As much credit as Deres is given, he only ever spent a portion of his time at the great Archive, preferring the bastions of Mazzan and Peirolyth, staying active and engaged with burgeoning technology and mechanics. A life hunched over a lectern certainly wouldn't have suited him...but perhaps that is where Raaezen found his true calling, sitting under the Twin Suns and the Lunar Sisters, jotting down answers to the questions that burned in his mind. Perhaps the ignorance of his fellow Freelanders frustrated him and he sought to put his experiences to writing. Whatever his reason and whatever the case, he has one of the Four Corners named after him, and the Father of Metal himself dubbed him the Father of Scribes.

It takes many years, over a lifetime, many hours hunched at desks by lamplight, and many bruised knuckles from senior scribes before full mastery is attained.
