Bangukian Moon Moth

Gossamer wings grace the graves of a dead civilization...   The planets themselves wept with the Burning of Banguk and Thangiens lamented the loss of their neighbors forever and for all time. The catastrophe wrought by the Dragon-Men's nightmarish superweapon saw an entire civilization consumed in an instant, but no one could have predicted how quickly Banguk would recover after being put to the flame. Once stowaways on crates during the fledgling days of commerce and trade between Thanged and Banguk, these creatures have become symbolic of nature's perseverance against all odds and have claimed the night skies for themselves. No longer Thangien, they are now truly Bangukian.

Biological Traits

Moths range from white to pale gray to a bluish silver and are roughly palm-sized.

Genetics and Reproduction

Moon moths will lay eggs either in the seams of trees or underneath leaves. As soon as they hatch, they must latch onto a nearby branch or stem lest they fall to the ground.

Growth Rate & Stages

Larvae spend an indeterminate period of time until the proper conditions present themselves and they can begin their next stage. Once they shed their carapace, they take to the night sky to search for a mate and begin the cycle anew.

Ecology and Habitats

Both Thangien and Bangukian varieties prefer the very tops of forest canopies, with the Thangien variety being much more limited.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Moths are not picky eaters and have countless varieties to choose from, whether sweating fruit rinds, tree blooms, or sap.

Biological Cycle

Moths are thought to live for only a few months after molting and spend their brief time as adults seeking mates.

Behaviour

The Burning left moths with no natural predators, not even larger insects, birds, or mammals. They have not been observed to be particularly fearful of explorers and if encountered high enough and presented with sweet lures, will flit over and rest on ones' hand.

Additional Information

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Unlike the Thangien variant which occupies the Eastern Jungle and Tirmutua, Bangukian moths can be found virtually anywhere on the planet.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Unlike species on the Oldworld, moon moths don't have stationary comb-like antennae, but rather they unfurl them when in motion. They possess fine hairs on their feet that can sense subtle shifts and latch onto sheer surfaces. Their compound eyes afford them excellent vision.

Originally Kento's berserker state responded to the full moon, and the guys learned of a "Lunar Apex" event that could occur three times in a given year. He would be at the height of his power but incapable of rational thought. Tanya hoped to bring him to Banguk-which has no moon-during the second Lunar Apex where he could simply wait out the event. As a precaution he wore an experimental suppression amulet crafted by Konomi which she hoped would prevent him from losing control, the side effect being it caused incredible pain. Much to Tanya's horror, she found out his body was attempting to change even with the lack of a moon and being so far away from Earth. He urged her to leave before the amulet failed and he lost control.   Tanya flew to where Almethea lived and asked if she knew a way to help him. Almethea enticed moths to her hand and calmly explained that these moon moths adapted to complete their life cycle even without a moon by using Thanged itself as a moon. She stated that Kento's transformations were simply a part of his natural rhythm and shouldn't be suppressed but embraced rather. Tanya expressed skepticism because of how ferocious Kento's Avatar form could be. She took her leave of Almethea and tried to find Kento only to see the amulet had failed and he'd fully transformed, lashing out like a wild beast and knocking over entire trees and hurling the trunks like toys in his fury. Tanya could only hang in the air and observe from on high until the Twin Suns rose and Kento reverted to normal in the morning.   The Third Lunar Apex took place during the mission to Geodo, but because Baeron had placed a psychic block on Kento, he couldn't transform at all and suffered intense pain. Baeron had kidnapped Tanya and taken her to a ruined arena where he gloated over her as a trophy. Kento's fury allowed him to break the block and transform, only this time he kept full control of his faculties and rescued Tanya. He engaged Baeron in a duel, able to withstand his psychokinetic wakes and kill the God of Evil.   Elements like the Lunar Apex and the full moon triggers have been discontinued, but the moths might be included in future stories involving Banguk and the rescue mission to Geodo is set to occur during the God Wars mini-arc.

Even without the light of the Lunar Sisters Jhuno and Jhunin, moon moths have evolved rather quickly to use their neighboring planet itself as a marker to begin their life cycle.
