Ember

Personal Story

Birth of an Immortal

Ember was born on some day in the year 346 RT, in the countryside of Alatran to a farmers family. His mother died shortly after giving birth to him, followed by his father. Both died of a heart attack caused by the Wipe-Out condition, wich was still widespread across the known world. Miraculously, after his parents death, Ember survived multiple days before he was discovered all alone by one of the neighbors. Ember was brought to an orphanage by the man who found him, as the latter did not have the facilities to take care of a newborn.

Life at the Orphanage

Ember came to the orphanage with neither given, nor family name, and it would stay that way for a few years, until a caretaker started calling him by the name Ember. She reasoned that the color of his hair resembled that of ember, so she found it rather fitting. Eventually, from the caretakers to the other children, everyone started referring to him as Ember, wich lead him to recognize it as his de facto real name. But even after getting a name of his own, he still stayed a quiet child, rarely interacting with anybody. As the Wipe-Out pandemic began to subside an couples came to adopt children more often again, his overly silent demeanor would turn out to be a burden for him. The people who wanted to adopt a kid, only had interest in open and joyful ones, but Ember never met those criteria. So until the age of 16 Ember wouldn't be adopted, at wich point he was sent into military training, as was customary for children who go unadopted.

Military Career and Revelations

During his time in the military, Ember became fascinated with the sword fighting and considered it not just a way of battle, but also one of the highest art forms someone could achieve. He was so eager to become the best, to the point that he would disregard his own well being to become better and discover techniques never seen before. After finishing basic training, Ember took part in the conquering of Reverdo, a former vassal state of Alatran, wich broke away from the empire during the Age of Decay. The king of Reverdo finally decided to bend the knee, nine years after the initial start of the campaign. Ember was commended by his superiors for his skills and courage in battle, capturing the attention of king George I , who promptly ordered Ember to appear in his court. King George I, seeing Ember and his skills in person, had him be promoted to a general of the army. Furthermore, he assured Ember, that if he kept up his abilities, he would be eligible to the position of Grand General, whenever it became free again. Continuing on his path, Ember would lead his army in many lesser and some bigger campaigns across Lencra, succeeding in every single one, and cementing himself as one of the greatest army leaders in history. In 386 RT Ember received a note from the new king, George II, informing him of the death of the last Grand General, and his succession to the title. This made Ember realized something he had completely overlooked these past years. By now he should be 40 years old, but despite that, he still looked and felt like he did 20 years ago. So could that mean he's...an Immortal?

Am Immortal Grand General

On the first of January, 387 RT, Ember was named the new Grand General by king George II in Centrum City. The spirit of Alatran was at an all-time high, as Embers success stories have been told far and wide around Lencra, ever since he was made a general. Ember also had a new sword made for him. Made out of Dark Steel and forged over the span of a whole year, Abaddon was made one of the strongest weapons in history and one of only twelve Dark Steel weapons ever made. For over 180 years, Ember fulfilled his duty as Grand General, commanding the army and battle training multiple future kings of the realm.

Physical Description

Body Features

Ember measures at 2 meters, 30 centimeters and weighing only around 112 kilograms. He has a lean and muscular build, yet overall appears tall and rather slim. When it comes to attire, Ember prefers his light weight armor, not just for combat situations, but also as everyday clothing. When he first started in his position of Grand General, George II wanted Ember to equip himself with a new set of armor, wich would underline his new title. But Ember insisted to keep his black leather armor he dawned from the beginning of his military career. He reasoned with the king, that he believes that unlike a metal armor, a leather one like, the one he already possessed, wouldn't restrict his movement and therefore also didn't interfere with his movement oriented combat style. As a compromise with the king, Ember had his leather armor modified, adding intricate silver trimmings and improving it's overall design. Over the coming years, he further modified his attire, but the original armor and the styling remained at large the same.

Facial Features

A striking feature of Ember are his eyes, or his irises. They are both black in color, matching his pupils and offer a harsh contrast to his white sclera. Embers facial structure seems almost artificial. For instance his nose bridge, wich doesn't feature a single divot or notch and being completely straight. His chin an jawline, although often obscured by his scarf, visibly share the same features as his nose, also being sharp and straight. Another recognizable feature of are his long hair. His hair is pitch-black, with subtle hints of dark brown undertones. His hair are dense and about a meter in length, reaching from the head to just above the hip.

Benefits of Immortality

While others have decades to learn and improve themselves in whatever field they chose. Ember had two centuries to perfect his fighting and strategizing, turning him into arguably the best duelist and strategic mind in the world. Being an Immortal isn't all flowers and sunshine, as it comes with one big drawback: Seeing all the people you ever cared for die. But Ember has a special view on this matter.

"There is no one I truly love, therefore also no loved one to see die. The only ones I could have ever loved were taken from me long ago"
— Ember, about the drawback of immortality

Personal Philosophy and Quotes
"If it were between death or dishonor, I'd chose death in a heartbeat; and so should you."

Ember often uses this statement in regards to dueling, but he's also used it in other situations. In Embers mind, a duel should be honorable, with no dirty tricks involved. Just man to man and sword to sword, so the best may win.
