"When at last I dared to lift my gaze toward the heavens and fix my thoughts upon the gods, I came to a singular and chilling realization: our world is haunted. Haunted by forces older than time itself. The Divine Parents, those distant architects of our creation, have long since vanished into the void, leaving us adrift and abandoned. In their absence, however, something else, something far more inscrutable, has slithered in from beyond the Sea of Night. These new gods have crept into our world, their presence subtle at first, but now unmistakable, as they sink their talons into the very marrow of existence. What are they, truly? We cannot say with certainty. They are vast, alien things, slipping through the cracks of our fragile comprehension. Yet, even in their incomprehensibility, these beings take form, manifestations in our world that are as physical as they are undeniable. It is in these forms, these strange and terrible aspects, that we may find a fleeting glimpse, a shadow, perhaps, of their true nature. And it is this thin, trembling grasp that we must cling to, for it is all we have. Thus, I dedicate the second volume of my Compendium to the deities and the intricate hierarchies that bind them.
