Basic Information
Behaviour
Tyrannical, grim, industrious and pessimistic, the lives of the Night Dwarves are bleak and brutal. Rather than a flaw, however, they view their lack of happiness as their greatest strength, the defining feature of Grym pride. The Uloon see themselves as the true paragons of dwarvish ideals compared to their weak and pampered kin, but in truth, their ways are a dark reflection of those found in other dwarves.
Night dwarves creations aren’t flawed or subpar, and in fact are rather enduring, but completely utilitarian. Creations only considered valuable for their function and bereft of any warmth or artistry. Works are not labors of love, for their goal is not love of the craft but the need for functionality and to make things work faster or better.
On the positive side of Nightn Dwarf behavior, they shared the dwarven virtue of minding one's own business and believe in treating nature well and only taking what is needed.
Additional Information
Social Structure
The harsh conditions of life in the Wastes effect society in a number of unusual ways. Children are an extremely important aspect, partly due to a low birthrate relative to the mortality rate. Shadow gnome mothers dote on their children obsessively. When they reach adolescence, children are quickly apprenticed to masters in whatever trade they are expected to take on. Most males were miners or forgers, while females were the masters of the community by raising children, keeping the house tidy, caring for the sick or elderly, gathering food, and preparing meals.
Facial characteristics
Unlike other Dwarves both genders don’t grow facial hair and males are bald and females can only grow short patchy hair. While being stocky built they are naturally thinner than other dwarves. Their skin is a dull gray with hair being white or black and eyes are an almost lifeless grey.
Civilization and Culture
Culture and Cultural Heritage
As a whole, the Nerroth Dwed are a hard-working and joyless people, but they still require time to relax and let off steam. This often takes the form of heavy drinking and consumption of psychedelic mushrooms but always done in a controlled manner and environment never going to excess just enough to take the edge off. They also enjoy gambling type games and fighting pits whether participating or watching.
Artistically, they tend to use a lot of gemstones, which are relatively common in Grym communities. Nerroth also turned their cultivation of mushrooms for food into a wider industry, developing fungi not only for food but for textiles and wood as well.
Their cuisine is also a reflection of their livelihood, with the common staples made up of a variety of exotic fungi found only in the kings crest. The only animals they have been able to breed and use in the wastes are goats and chicken a lot of their diet includes eggs, chicken or goat. Due to the inconsistency of food they tend to opt for salt curing their meat to preserve it as long as they can.
