Kenku
Kenku are a smaller of shoot of Birdkin and have lived on the Isle of voices since the dragon wars.
They are believed to be extinct. If building take this into consideration as to why you have left the island.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Birdkin resemble humanoid birds. While Kenku are similar they do not have winks so they just have feathered arms. Their powerful legs end in four sharp talons that can unlock and fold back to reveal another pair of functional hands.
Ecology and Habitats
Dietary Needs and Habits
Full pescatarian diet between berries and nuts growing on the island with fish they catch themselves
Behaviour
Kenku are by habit secretive, self-seeking, and cunning creatures. They are opportunistic and unscrupulous. This has resulted in them using their mimic skills to drive anyone who comes to their island mad and steal what they can from them so they never want to return and not notice missing items.
Additional Information
Social Structure
Kenku live in close-knit clans, commonly called "flocks". These flocks were distrusting of outsiders hence using their skills to drive them from the island.
On the island they speak their own avian language but can speak common but usually only in the form of their mimic skills but some do develop their own voices not using mimic.
After hatching from their eggs, kenku remain in their home-nests with their families. Once they reach adulthood at age nine, they leave their nests forever. Due to the isolation of Kenku on the island and their lack of flight they tend not to venture off the island and just form new nests of their own
Their "nests" resemble treehouses made from woven branches both branches still attatched to trees and any old and dead ones.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
A kenku can accurately mimic all kinds of noises, voices, and accents. A gifted kenku mimic can fool a foe into believing they heard a voice they are well familiar with.
Kenku have an innate skill in the art of stealth utilising their height, loose dark clothing and general agility skills.
Civilization and Culture
Naming Traditions
They choose names that sound like bird song and the sound of things they have heard. This can then be useful when scaring people from the island when you hear these random sounds comming from the trees when in fact they are just calling each others name.
Common Dress Code
They typically wear nondescript brown robes, under which they conceal tools and weaponry. These are basic things made from simple plants and rocks.
